We're SO EXCITED about our AGING GRACEFULLY RESOURCE FAIR that will take place at our Human Services Bldg. 414 E. Main St. Durham 27701 10 am-2 pm, this Saturday, June 13th! What makes it extra special are the seminars that will be presented! You can't get this much information for FREE on aging anywhere! Don't miss it!

¡La División de Servicios para Adultos y Personas Mayores del DSS del Condado de Durham organizará su FERIA DE RECURSOS "ENVEJECER CON GRACIA" (Aging Gracefully Resource Fair) el sábado 13 de junio, de 10 a. m. a 2 p. m.! ¡Se dice que esta feria sobre el envejecimiento es la más completa del estado de Carolina del Norte! Contará con más de 30 expositores que abordarán prácticamente cualquier tema imaginable: desde finanzas hasta Medicaid para cuidados a largo plazo, Medicare, Seguro Social, Alzheimer y demencia, nutrición, actividad física, cuidado de familiares, reducción de espacio en el hogar (mudanza a un lugar más pequeño) ¡y mucho más! También habrá seminarios:
· Cuidado de un ser querido con Alzheimer: presentado por el Dr. Robert Turner II, del Centro de Investigación de la Enfermedad de Alzheimer de Duke/UNC.

· Detalles y aspectos clave de Medicaid para cuidados a largo plazo y centros de enfermería especializada: presentado por Diamali Corbett, Gerente del Programa de Medicaid para Adultos del DCoDSS.

· Comprender Medicare y las opciones para solicitar beneficios del Seguro Social: presentado por Ken Schaefer, de Schaefer Business Associates.

· Comprender la tutela legal para adultos: presentado por Sherita Dobbins y Katherine Ruiz, especialistas en tutela del DCoDSS.

· ¿Qué son los Servicios de Protección para Adultos (APS)? - presentado por Ashley Fields, especialista en tratamiento de APS del DCoDSS.

· Cómo organizar y reducir eficazmente las pertenencias acumuladas durante toda una vida de recuerdos: presentado por Bridget Haddican, Gerente de Relaciones con el Cliente de "The Downsizers".

Parents/Grandparents & Guardians, This week, NCDHHS announced the first round of SUN Bucks benefits for summer 2026 will reach more than 1 million children, with $121 million distributed to eligible families across the state. Please see below for more details⬇️

☀️ NC Parents Starting To Receive SUN Bucks Cards 📬 What You Should Know for 2026
🛒 Parents across NC are beginning to receive SUN Bucks cards, texts, emails, and mail notifications for Summer 2026 food benefits.
💳 The SUN Bucks program provides a one-time $120 grocery benefit per eligible child to help families buy food while school is out for summer break.
👨‍👩‍👧 Many children qualify automatically through programs such as free or reduced-price school meals, FNS, Work First, certain Medicaid programs, foster care, or other qualifying assistance programs.
📝 WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW:
Eligible families will receive a NEW SUN Bucks card in the mail for Summer 2026. Benefits are not being added onto last year’s card.
📦 Cards are being mailed out in stages across NC throughout the summer, so some families may receive theirs sooner than others.
⏳ If your child normally qualifies and you have not received a card yet, officials say additional cards are still being mailed as the rollout continues statewide.
🏠 Families are encouraged to make sure their mailing address and contact information are updated with DSS or other assistance programs connected to their case.
📱 Parents can also check eligibility, application details, or benefit status through the NC SUN Bucks program or by contacting support.
