An iconic abolitionist speech, read aloud, in community. On July 4, 2026 at 10 am, visit the Horton Grove slave quarters for the annual community read-aloud of Frederick Douglass' 1852 address, "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July." One hundred and seventy four years later, the speech still resonates, inviting all to reflect on the United States' founding ideals and our shared history of slavery and freedom.
