* Coxton Road Update *
Penndot was able to clear the road and make the route passable again. However much of Coxton Rd remains very narrow due to the snow drifts accumulated on either side. Please use caution if traveling this route.

Incident summary:
Shortly after 2:30pm on Jan 25, 2026, Luzerne 911 dispatched fire and EMS to the 900 block of Coxton Rd for a reported avalanche blocking the road based on the caller's description. Fire police responded to check for hazards while holding fire units on standby. It was determined that a large snow slide had occurred in the narrows section of Coxton rd, approximately 1.5 miles from the Lackawanna county border, blocking both lanes. After verifying that no vehicles were involved, fire units were released from the call and Penndot was advised of the situation.

Penndot has been made aware of the issue.

❄️ ROAD SAFETY UPDATE ❄️
Heavy snowfall continues to make local roads unsafe to travel, and conditions are expected to worsen over the next few hours. While DPW is handling snow clearing, visibility and road surfaces still remain hazardous.
🚫 As a general rule, DO NOT bypass any blockades!
Whether manned or unmanned, any road closure is in place for your safety. Blocked roads may hide downed power lines, fallen trees, or other hazards buried under the snow.
Please stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary and allow crews to work safely.
