The Post & Auxiliary had an amazing weekend at our State Convention! Thank you to all of our members who attended. We handled business, had fun, celebrated our 4th year in a row of making the All State Team! This is a team accomplishment, earned by all members. Thank you for your dedication and commitment to the VFW & Auxiliary.

A few highlights:
-All State Post! And the following awards: 100% membership award, Commander Gold Award, and Community Service Award.
-Celebrated Auxiliary Member, Geraldine Arabie being honored for her commitment to service. She received “Outstanding Hospital Volunteer of the Year Award” for the entire state! She’s sewn over 285 hrs for veterans at SWLVH in Jennings (VA home). She has sewn towel bibs, phone bags, wheelchair bags, and lap blankets. She has a heart of service! We are so grateful for her commitment and service.
-District 4, Commander Don Reber, received the District Membership Cup for most growth in membership in the state
-Our Post Commander, James Bourque was elected as Department Sr Vice Commander
-Auxiliary received multiple awards for their service such as 1st place hospital award and many others. Also won table decorating contest for fundraising dinner Friday night. Thank you Faye Reed & Danielle Miller for your hard work with decorations and the Buddy Poppy hat. Thanks Peggy C**n for your artistic talents with our Buddy poppy project entry.
Overall, great weekend with great leaders from all over the nation in attendance.

At our meeting last week, we honored 2 very special members who go above and beyond for our organization and to serve our veterans.
-Volunteer of the Year: Ms. Geraldine Arabie! This year alone, she has sewn over 285 hrs for the veterans at Southwest Louisiana Veterans Home in Jennings. She has sewn phone bags, wheelchair bags, towel bibs, and lap blankets.
-Member of the Year: Thuy Reber! Thuy not only attends everything but has a positive attitude and is ready to jump in and help!
We are grateful for all of our members, but especially proud of these two auxiliary members! Great work ladies!

Rayne WWII veteran Prigeon Fontenot returns to Normandy for 82nd D-Day Anniversary revisiting the very place where he battled German soldiers

A great meeting was held last night! Handed out a few well deserved awards, installed 2 new members, and shared in some camaraderie.

The absolute highlight of the evening was being able to welcome home WW2 veteran Prigeon Fontenot at the Lafayette airport. He just returned from his trip to Normandy where he took part in the 82nd anniversary of D-Day.

Mr. Fontenot is a celebrity in Normandy, especially once they found out he’s a “Frenchie”. Many of the locals to include students enjoyed the conversation and stories in French.

We thank Mr. Fontenot for his service and welcome home.

Thank you to the Best Defense Foundation for sponsoring him to be able to make this memorable trip.
