The Flaming Gorge Ranger District has opened the following gates for access into the Uintas:
Forest Road 093 - Death Valley
Forest Road 218 - Sheep Creek Geological Loop
Forest Road 221 - only open for access into Browne Lake
Roads to Long Park Reservoir, Spirit Lake, Deep Creek, and Dowd Mountain are CLOSED.
The Sheep Creek Geological Loop is open for access on the TOP side. The lower portion is closed from the Carmel Campground to Palisade Memorial Park for Road construction, which is ongoing Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5:30 PM. Please be aware that there are NO turnarounds at the bottom of the loop near Palisade Memorial Park.
Some snow and mud conditions are still present, please exercise caution and use your best judgment when entering those areas.
As always remember, PACK IT - IN, PACK IT - OUT and LEAVE NO TRACE! Help us keep the wilderness wild and happy recreating!

Hi folks! The Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center is scheduled to open on Friday, April 15th, 2022 - 9 AM to 4 PM until Memorial Day weekend when the hours will change to 9 AM to 5 PM. We can't wait to see you there!
There will be no tours inside the dam but the pedestrian walkway will be open for self-guided tours through the Visitor Center. Pedestrians are not permitted on the dam beside the road.
At its deepest point, Flaming Gorge is 436', meaning the entire Wells Fargo Center could fit under the water and still have 14' to spare! Also, that water looks COLD!!! 🥶

Flaming Gorge Has a Temporary New District Ranger
Marshall Alford will be working as the District Ranger for the Flaming Gorge Ranger District for the next four months while the district seeks to permanently fill the position. Marshall is following behind Curt Booher, the previous district ranger, who recently accepted another position in Oregon.
Marshall comes from the Salt Lake Ranger District on the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest as the district recreation staff officer. He began working on Forest Service trails in high school and received his degree in Natural Resource Management from Colorado State University. Since then, he has worked for the Forest Service in North Carolina, New Mexico, Alaska, and most recently Salt Lake.
Outside of work, Marshall enjoys backpacking, pack rafting, climbing, skiing, and fishing, but his personal favorite is packing horses in the mountains while hunting elk in the fall.

The Flaming Gorge District Ranger Office will temporarily be closed until February 8 due to a recent increase in COVID-19 cases within the district. While the office itself is closed, information and services are still available as employees will be working remotely during this time. For general information or to speak with a Forest Service representative, you can call the district at 435-784-3445.
Information and maps are also available in the kiosk outside of the building. Additionally, recreation passes can be purchased at the following “local” vendors:
• Rock Springs: Kelly’s Convenience Gas Stores (9th St., Sunset, and Yellowstone); Mr. Al’s Sinclair; Ace Hardware; and the Chamber of Commerce
• Green River: Ace Hardware; Maverik; Wyoming Embroidery; Buckboard Marina; and the Chamber of Commerce
• Mountain View: Maverik
• Manila, UT: Flaming Gorge Market; Lucerne Marina

Meet Chicken Creek Charlie, whose given name is Rock Chuck. He's a western cousin of Punxsutawney Phil and General Beauregard Lee. It's not likely he'll see his shadow on #GroundhogDay because he's fast asleep in his burrow buried beneath two feet of snow. Most years, Chuck doesn't venture above ground until late April or Early May. If he sees his shadow then, odds are it'll snow in southwestern Wyoming on the 4th of July. The Ashley National Forest will be burning piles in the Alma Taylor area within the next few months. The material is residual debris on landing sites from logging activities completed last summer. The logging operations are part of a broader effort to improve Forest health through reduction of fuels and tree stand thinning.
There are approximately 60 acres with piles that will take two to four days for completion. The timeframes of burning will be dependent upon access, snow amounts and clearing index (how quickly the smoke is dispersed).
