Dutton Volunteer Fire recently responded to an electrical fire that could have turned into something much worse. Thankfully, people were home and able to catch it early.

This is a good reminder to unplug unused extension cords, power strips, chargers, and other electrical items when they’re not being used. Small electrical issues can turn into major fires fast.

Please take a few extra minutes to check your home and stay safe.

Dutton Volunteer Fire is getting close to wrapping up the new reflectives on our brush trucks and rescue rig. It’s been a good upgrade for the department and the trucks are really starting to stand out.

The added reflectives will help a lot during calls on the interstate, highways, and county roads, especially at night or during bad weather. Anything that helps make our rigs more visible helps keep both our responders and the public safer while working scenes.

It’s been nice seeing these older rigs continue to get updated and improved for the community.

Dutton Volunteer Fire also recently received a donated case of water for the department. We really appreciate the donation and the support. Simple things like that go a long way in helping responders stay recovered and hydrated during trainings and calls.

Dutton Volunteer Fire was part of a C-130 downed aircraft training Tuesday morning outside of Power alongside the Montana Air National Guard and several partnering agencies.

This simulated crash brought together crews from Teton County EMS , Power Fire, Fairfield Volunteer Fire Dept. , Teton County Search and Rescue , and others for a great multi-agency training.

These trainings focus on working together across departments covering triage, search and rescue, radio communication, and overall scene coordination.

We’re lucky to have opportunities like this to train together and keep everyone in Teton County sharp and ready when it counts.

We’ve also included a link from a local news agency that shares more about the training and how it all came together.

Today is International Firefighters' Day and we wanted to take a moment to recognize all firefighters across Teton County and the surrounding communities.

In small towns like ours, volunteer firefighters are neighbors, coworkers, friends, and family members who leave whatever they are doing when the pager goes off.

Whether it’s a grass fire in the middle of harvest, a wreck on the highway late at night, or a medical call during a snowstorm, these volunteers continue to answer the call for their communities.

Teton County is lucky to have dedicated departments and mutual aid partners willing to train together, work together, and help each other when things get difficult. The strength of rural emergency services comes from people being willing to step up for one another.

Today we want to thank every firefighter, past and present, along with the families that support them behind the scenes. Your time, sacrifice, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

From all of us at Dutton Volunteer Fire & Rescue, thank you to firefighters everywhere. Stay safe and look out for one another.

Earlier today, Dutton Volunteer Fire and Dutton EMS were paged to a single vehicle wreck near the northbound rest stop just north of Dutton.

Crews responded to assist with scene safety, traffic control, and patient care. Thankfully incidents like this serve as a good reminder how quickly things can happen out on the highway, even on a normal day.

With spring and summer traffic starting to pick up, we are seeing more people traveling, more farm equipment moving, and more motorcycles back out on the roads. Please slow down, stay off the phone while driving, and give yourself extra time to react to changing road conditions and traffic.

Big thanks to all of the first responders that came out and assisted on scene today.

Dutton Volunteer Fire & Rescue would like to make the community aware that several local residents have shared that they are receiving scam text messages claiming to be from Montana courts or law enforcement about unpaid traffic violations and suspended licenses.

These messages are scams.

Some of the biggest red flags are:
• Random website links that are not official .gov websites
• Threatening language trying to pressure people into acting immediately
• Requests to reply “YES” or “OK”
• Demands for payment or personal information through a text message

Please do not click the link or reply to the message.

If you receive one of these texts, you can report it as spam directly from your phone:
• On most phones, press and hold the message and select “Report Junk” or “Report Spam”
• You can also forward scam texts to 7726 (SPAM), which helps mobile carriers investigate scam activity

Please help spread the word, especially to older family members and community members who may not realize these messages are fake.

See this plate around town?

If you notice a Dutton Volunteer Fire & Rescue license plate frame in the Dutton area, it means that the vehicle belongs to a local first responder. Members earn these plates after one year of service with our department as a small way to recognize the time and commitment they give back to our community.

We’re always looking for more people who want to step up and help. If you’ve ever thought about joining Dutton Volunteer Fire or EMS, now’s a great time. Volunteering lets you serve your neighbors, learn new skills, and be part of a team that looks out for each other.

We meet every second and last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM, right here in Dutton on Main Street. To be an active member, you must be local to Dutton or the surrounding areas of town. Questions or want more information?

Feel free to reach out to any of the following:
Chief Evan Gouchenour — 406-564-0505
Assistant Chief Russ Palmerton — 406-231-0701
Training Officer Chance Ostberg — 406-788-1118

We’re always happy to talk.
