HOUSING REHABILITATION GRANT PROGRAM

The Village of Dwight is partnering with the North Central Illinois Council of Governments (NCICG) on a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Housing Rehabilitation Program funded by the federal government. Program partners also include the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Tri-County Opportunities Council (TCOC).

The goal of this program is to rehabilitate approximately 10–12 single-family, owner-occupied homes within the Village limits for low-to-moderate income households. Improvements may help make homes safer, healthier, more energy efficient, and bring them up to current code standards.

Residents interested in participating may stop by Village Hall to pick up a survey or contact Village Hall at 815-584-3077 for additional information.

Residents may also receive a letter and survey in the mail regarding this program. We strongly encourage homeowners to complete and return the survey, as participation is a critical part of the grant application process and helps demonstrate community need.

This is a quick turnaround, as completed surveys must be returned by June 3rd.

We’re celebrating 100 years of Historic Route 66 all year long!

Did you know the Village of Dwight is home to its very own Visitors Center along Old Route 66? Each year from May through October, our amazing team of volunteers welcomes thousands of travelers from around the world to experience a piece of Route 66 history.

Built in 1933, the National Register of Historic Place-listed Ambler-Becker Texaco Station served travelers for more than six decades before closing in 1999. In 2002, the station was generously donated to the Village of Dwight and transformed into the Visitors Center we know today.

What makes this landmark even more special? Throughout its entire history as a working service station, it had only two owners: Basil “Tubby” Ambler and Phil Becker.

Stop by and help us celebrate a century of the Mother Road!
