HONORING A LIFETIME OF SERVICE

After nearly 40 years in law enforcement - Sheriff Jeff Box is looking forward to continuing his service in a new role. Alongside him for 16 of those years was Chief Deputy Mike Boals.

Today, Chief Boals closed out 46 years of faithful and honorable law enforcement service to our community!

He has stood beside Sheriff Box as a steady hand and trusted leader, keeping this office running day in and day out. Together, they have 86 years of service.

86 years of trauma and tragedy. 86 years of bad guys. 86 years of law and order. 86 years of serving you at a job not many are willing or capable of doing.

To Chief Deputy Boals: thank you for your dedication to our community and to the men and women who serve alongside you.

Dyer County is safer and better because of you.

CONGRATULATIONS, SHERIFF JEFF BOX

Some honors are earned in a moment. These were earned over a career.

The Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association has awarded Sheriff Jeff Box lifetime membership and named him Sheriff Emeritus - the two highest distinctions the Association bestows on a sheriff.

Neither is given lightly.
Neither is given often.

Sheriff Box began his law enforcement career in 1986, straight out of high school, at eighteen years old.

Forty years later, he is still serving. Sixteen of those years have been as Sheriff of Dyer County, leading this office by a simple standard: take care of the people you serve, and take care of the people who serve them.

He has served as President of the Tennessee Sheriffs’ Association, the National Sheriff’s Association Border Security Committee, and recently spoke to all new 34 Sheriffs at the New Sheriff’s School presented by CTAS. Both were very high honors for Sheriff Box.

He has stood behind his deputies when it was easy and when it was not.

He has answered the call at every hour, in every season, through every kind of night this county has had.

The Tennessee Sheriff’s Association recognized what Dyer County has known for a long time.

Congratulations, Sheriff.

From the deputies, investigators, correctional officers, dispatchers, and staff of the Dyer County Sheriff’s Office - thank you for your leadership, and thank you for your service.

We hope you enjoy this next chapter of service to the people of Tennessee!

We need your help to find Homer Billings, who is missing from Tipton County.

The 81-year-old is 6’2”, 160 lbs., with gray hair and hazel eyes.

He was last seen on Saturday and is believed to be travelling to Caruthersville, Missouri.

Homer may be driving a silver 2019 KIA Sorento with TN plate BGH4147.

He has a medical condition that may impair his ability to return safely without assistance.

DEPUTIES ACQUITTED

Today in Dyer County Circuit Court, Judge Mark Hayes acquitted all four deputies of the charges against them - including Dyer County Deputy Lynn Waller.

These four deputies were among the other officers who apprehended an armed, violent suspect just minutes after he shot and killed a young lady in Shelby County.

We respect the court’s decision and appreciate the careful consideration Judge Hayes gave to this matter.

Our office remains committed to serving the citizens of Dyer County with integrity and professionalism.

Congratulations to Sheriff-Elect Montgomery on his retirement from the Tennessee Highway Patrol. We pray for the safety of all who serve this county, and we are already assisting with his transition into the Office of Sheriff of Dyer County.
