A local Dysart family has adopted a special needs dog, her name is Heavenly, she was born with a neurological condition.

This dog is blind, deaf, and takes medication to help her maintain her body weight. At about a year old she still must be bottle fed.

The family has taken Heavenly to be seen by two veterinarians and a specialty veterinarian who deals with dogs who have neurological issues. The veterinarian says that she is not suffering with any pain.

Due to her condition, she will from time to time move her head side to side in a swaying movement and due to her blindness, she may look like she is staring into space.

Heavenly does have less control over her bodily motor functions which cause her to appear as though she is in distress; this is a symptom of her neurological condition.

The family understands everyone’s concern for Heavenly and asks that you not approach Heavenly or attempt to have contact with her. As this can cause distress due to her conditions.

The family is monitoring Heavenly’s health and providing her with care and a loving environment.

Is anyone missing a chicken?
😎
Last seen eastbound on Clark.

UPDATE: Dysart PD has dubbed this fowl creature "Mongo." (I simply refuse to keep saying THE CHICKEN)
Mongo's owners have been in touch.
Thank you to everyone who, so very quickly, reached out to us. 😀

*Our 9th annual Shop with a Cop*

We have the best folks here in Dysart and Tama County, I truly mean that.

The youth will always be our top priority as a law enforcement agency. Focusing on the present and future, we want our current and future youth members to know we are here for a genuine reason. There are no hidden agendas, we simply care and forever value our relationships with the community and our young bucks.

I cannot thank Harper's Public House - Dysart and KE Black Mercantile for their fantastic food they provided for this event. Each year they step up supporting this event, we are forever grateful for you.

Grant $$$ becomes more and more difficult to obtain each year, but Walmart always comes through for us. Along with our Dysart Lions Club and anonymous donations, you all make this happen. Words cannot express our gratitude towards you.

To our volunteers/helpers. Principal Weber and his staff at Union Community School district always show up. We couldn’t ask for a better school district to be paired up with, hands down the best in Iowa (legitimate true statement).

Last but not least, the Tama County Sheriff's Office. This will be Detective Trevor Killian’s final Shop with a Cop, as he will be retiring in the summer of 2026. I personally value our relationship as co-workers and the friendship we have outside of the job. l will miss him as a co-worker and Tama County will be losing one of the best! (He’s only 50 btw).

Until next year, stay safe!

Respectfully,

Officer Jeremy Stenda
