🚩 RED FLAG WARNING & FIRE WEATHER WATCH 🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Sunday from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM MST and a Fire Weather Watch from Monday morning through Tuesday evening for much of northern and eastern Arizona, including the Round Valley area.

Weather conditions are expected to include:
🌬️ Southwest winds of 15–25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph
🔥 Relative humidity between 10–15% on Sunday, dropping to as low as 5–10% Monday and Tuesday
🌾 Extremely dry fuels capable of supporting rapid fire growth

These conditions create a high potential for new fire starts and the rapid spread of any existing fires. Any spark can quickly become a dangerous wildfire.

Please help prevent wildfires by:
• Avoiding outdoor burning
• Refraining from welding, grinding, or other spark-producing activities in dry vegetation
• Properly securing trailer chains
• Never discarding ci******es from vehicles
• Following all Stage 1 Fire Restrictions

We urge all residents and visitors to remain vigilant and use extreme caution through Tuesday. Together, we can help protect our communities, forests, and firefighters.

🚒 Brush Fire Response – Amity Lane, Eagar 🚒

At 9:55 a.m. today, Round Valley Fire & Medical Department responded to a brush fire on Amity Lane in Eagar. Crews responded with one Type 1 engine and two Type 6 brush trucks, with assistance from Vernon Fire District (BC-25).

Thanks to the quick actions of responding firefighters, the fire’s forward progress was stopped by 10:28 a.m. Additional resources that had been dispatched were canceled before arrival.

🔥 Cause: The fire was determined to have been caused by welding activities.

As a reminder, the Towns of Eagar and Springerville are currently under Stage 1 Fire Restrictions. Dry vegetation, low humidity, and windy conditions mean that even a small spark can quickly become a dangerous wildfire.

If you are welding, grinding, cutting metal, or performing any activity that can produce sparks:
✅ Clear combustible vegetation from the work area
✅ Keep a water source readily available
✅ Continuously monitor the area during and after work is completed

Current Stage 1 Fire Restrictions include:
• No burning, maintaining, attending, or using campfires within the Towns of Eagar and Springerville
• No use of fireworks, explosive targets, or tracer ammunition
• Smoking is restricted except within an enclosed vehicle or building, a residential yard, or an area cleared of flammable materials as outlined in the restriction order

We appreciate the community’s cooperation in helping reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires and keeping our firefighters, residents, and property safe.

🚩 RED FLAG WARNING FOR THURSDAY 🚩

The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for our area on Thursday, May 28th from 11:00 AM MST to 8:00 PM MST due to strong winds, low humidity, and critical fire weather conditions.

These conditions can cause fires to start easily and spread rapidly.

⚠️ Please avoid:
• Outdoor burning
• Welding or grinding in dry vegetation
• Parking vehicles on tall grass
• Tossing ci******es from vehicles
• Any activity that may create sparks or open flames

We ask all residents and visitors to remain cautious and help reduce the risk of wildfire throughout the day.

If you see smoke or fire, report it immediately by calling 911.

Stay safe and help protect our communities and surrounding forests.

⚠️ Community Notice ⚠️

A fire is currently visible from the Springerville/Eagar area in the Water Canyon area. Multiple units from the U.S. Forest Service are currently enroute and responding.

Please avoid the area and allow emergency personnel room to operate safely. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as information becomes available.

As a reminder, Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are currently in effect. Residents and visitors are encouraged to use extreme caution with any activity that could spark a fire and to follow all current fire restriction guidelines.

Controlled Burn Notice – Springerville Airport

Round Valley Fire and Medical (RVFMD) will be conducting a controlled burn on Thursday, May 21st, beginning at 1800 hours at the Springerville Airport.

This burn is being conducted for multiple important purposes, including creating additional protection around the airport from future wildland fires and improving the parking area to help reduce fire danger during the July 4th fireworks show.

With our area now entering Stage 1 Fire Restrictions, we want the public to understand that completing this project now is crucial before conditions become even drier heading further into fire season.

Multiple engines and personnel will be assigned to the operation to ensure the burn is conducted safely and efficiently. Residents in the area may see smoke and fire activity during the operation.

RVFMD would also like to thank Vernon Fire District for their willingness to assist with this project and support our communities.

We appreciate everyone’s understanding and continued support as we work to reduce wildfire risk and improve public safety.

Hydrant testing operations are continuing in Springerville as crews move into the areas south of Main Street between Coconino Street and the Sheldon/Pima area.

Residents may notice fire crews operating hydrants, temporary drops in water pressure, or brief periods of discolored water while testing is being conducted. This testing is an important part of evaluating and maintaining our hydrant system to help ensure reliable fire protection for the community.

If discolored water is noticed, running cold water for several minutes will typically clear the lines.
