Rising2Recovery Recovery in body, mind, and spirit by supporting, guiding, and advocating, in ways that only women who have walked in our shoes can understand.

RISING TO RECOVERY is intended to help women who have faced cancer to recover in body, mind, and spirit by supporting, guiding, and advocating, in ways that only women who have walked in our shoes can understand. We are not medical professionals and do not profess to be. We are a supportive group who have each walked our own cancer journey, and have united to help others traveling a similar path.

Through the process, we each grow as women, friends, sisters, mothers, daughters, even care-givers; but most of all we each rise toward recovery.

I would have loved for you to meet my friend Tanya. But you can’t. MBC has stolen her from us. She passed away this week. I want to go on and on about it. But I’m going to leave this right here.

If you are on this page, you know what to do ... don’t support Pink Ribbons. Do your thing and support MetaVivor, support a local charity where your dollars will remain in the community and 100% will go to researching a cure.

Thank you to each and every one of you that donated to METAvivor in 2020! Because of your generosity, earlier this week METAvivor Research and Support announced that 23 new grant awards totaling $3,650,000 will be funded. These research grants will enhance the understanding of metastatic breast cancer, help improve current treatments and develop greatly needed therapeutic options to combat this complicated and terminal disease. Since its founding in 2009, METAvivor has put 100% of donations into its peer-reviewed research grant program, and these 23 grants that we are presenting from donations in 2020 bring our grand total of metastatic breast cancer-specific research awards to $17,250,000 – and none of this research would be possible without the continued support from our donors, fundraisers, research partners, sponsors and the entire breast cancer community!

For all the details on the 2020 grants, head to our blog at https://www.metavivor.org/blog/metavivor-announces-grant-awards-for-metastatic-breast-cancer-research/

** Please share this announcement with your social media network and don’t forget to encourage them to follow METAvivor on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter if they aren’t yet!

This. 😢. Komen hasn’t changed.

Wendy Anderson wife of Arkansas State coach died from metastatic breast cancer. Her tragic death made news across the country, and Komen (Amy Treadwell) took this as an opportunity to make it ALL about themselves & a whole lot of misleading education.

The most disturbing part of the article is when Amy said this: (Our goal) "reduce breast cancer deaths by fifty percent by 2026. "early detection is the key to achieving this goal."

One more time: (Komen believes) EARLY DETECTION (not research) IS THE KEY TO REDUCING BREAST CANCER DEATHS BY 50% IN 7yrs.

Early detection will not save a single living metastatic patient or anyone already diagnosed.

This confirms to us to that Susan G. Komen has NOT changed one iota. Their new goal is the SAME one but with different packaging. Nothing has been learned. They aren't listening & by using metastatic deaths as a platform proves they still don't care.

Experts say the difference between life and death for breast cancer patients is getting a mammogram, and the CDC says over 280,000 women in Arkansas over 40 aren't.

This happens all the time.

“MY TRUTH...Before March 3rd 2017 I thought a “Breast cancer survivor" was a woman who had breast cancer and did not die from it. Boy was I wrong! "Survivor" doesn't give justice to what it is we really overcome. It's more than just "not dying" it's about surviving the mental abuse that cancer will put you through, have you questioning and second guessing every decision you once were so sure of, it's about surviving the emotional abuse that to often leave you feeling crippled, but with no crutches, it’s about surviving while everything you once knew about yourself is being taken by an unseen imposter that confusingly... is you! it's about surviving through every life changing surgery, some so painful that at times you forget how to breath, praying for it to at least lessen just enough to catch your breath pain free for just a moment, but over time the pain does lessen while little by little strengthening the way that we will view ourselfs, becoming proud to wear our permanent badge of honor that we wear so beautifully and we will become so much more than just our scars. But that won’t happen until we overcome everything we once never Thought We could, like having my breast removed, possibly having my ovaries removed and put on hormone therapy to stop the estrogen in which fuels my cancer, leaving me to ask “if you take all of that from me, than how will I ever feel like i am woman again?" Being a survivor is the moment we are handed the pen in which our oncologist gives us and we are told to place our signature on a form (before we are given chemotherapy) stating that we understand that chemo will kill some of us. For me Being a breast cancer survivor doesn’t have anything to do with whether I survive or not, It’s the possibility that maybe, just maybe because of the fight in which I'm fighting today it will give my children and your children a greater possibility to never have to wonder whether they will lose their fight to breast cancer because we already fought that fight for them”
