Attending the Eagle Pass MPO Technical Advisory Committee Meeting on Behalf of Maverick County Leadership

Today I attended the Eagle Pass Metropolitan Planning Organization Technical Advisory Committee Meeting on behalf of Maverick County leadership to discuss important transportation planning initiatives that will impact the future growth and development of our region.

Topics discussed included updates on the MPO Metropolitan Transportation Plan 2050, the FY 2027 through 2030 Transportation Improvement Program, and future planning priorities for the Eagle Pass and Maverick County area.

These meetings are important in ensuring local governments remain coordinated when it comes to transportation infrastructure, long term planning, and future funding opportunities.

Regional collaboration and planning are essential as Maverick County and Eagle Pass continue to grow. Looking forward to continued discussions that help improve mobility, infrastructure, and overall connectivity for our community.

Selected for NADBank Public Management Leadership Program

Honored to have been invited to enroll in the Public Management Leadership Program hosted by NADBank. This opportunity will help expand my knowledge as Maverick County Grant Administrator on the various infrastructure and funding opportunities available through the North American Development Bank.

The program will also provide training and insight on important topics including budgeting, asset management, financing, infrastructure planning, and public sector best practices.

Continued education and professional development are essential in ensuring Maverick County remains competitive and prepared to pursue funding opportunities that improve the quality of life for our residents.

Advocating for Critical Grant Funding for Maverick County

Traveled to Uvalde, Texas to present multiple grant applications on behalf of Maverick County, focused on strengthening support services and public safety initiatives.

Presentations included funding requests for a Victim Assistance Program, a Violence Against Women Act Investigator Program, and a Juvenile Diversion Program. Each of these initiatives plays a vital role in supporting victims, enhancing investigative capacity, and providing alternatives for youth within the justice system.

These efforts reflect Maverick County’s continued commitment to securing resources that protect our community, support those in need, and invest in programs that create long-term impact.

Strengthening Public Safety Through MVCPA Grant Preparation

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to attend the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority MVCPA Grant Application Workshop. Joined by Task Force Commanders Jose Ramos for Auto Theft and David Villanueva for Catalytic Converter investigations, we were able to obtain critical guidance and updated requirements necessary to complete upcoming grant applications for the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office.

These workshops are essential to ensure our applications remain competitive and aligned with state priorities. The information gathered will directly support our efforts to submit two grant applications aimed at continuing both the Auto Theft Task Force and the Catalytic Converter Task Force programs in Maverick County.

These programs play a key role in protecting our community and addressing evolving criminal activity. Looking forward to working alongside our law enforcement partners to move these applications forward and secure continued funding for these important initiatives.

🐾 Progress Toward a Maverick County Animal Shelter 🐾

The hard work of the Maverick County Planning Department, in conjunction with Maverick County Judge Ramsey English Cantú office and several local animal nonprofit organizations, is bringing us closer to making a long awaited dream a reality, a dedicated Maverick County Animal Shelter.

The Maverick County Judge’s Office has already set aside funding to move this project forward, demonstrating a strong commitment to addressing animal welfare needs in our community. The Grants Department will work alongside Planning and our local nonprofit partners to pursue additional funding opportunities that can help strengthen and expand this effort.

This is an exciting step for Maverick County. Through collaboration, responsible planning, and strategic funding, we are laying the groundwork for a facility that will serve both our residents and our local animal population in a meaningful way.

More to come as this vision continues to take shape.

📰 SB 3 Flood Preparedness Efforts Moving Forward in Maverick County

A recent article highlights the progress being made under Senate Bill 3 (SB 3) as Maverick County and the City of Eagle Pass advance planning efforts to strengthen flood preparedness.

SB 3 was passed by the Texas Legislature following the July 2025 flooding events and is designed to help impacted counties identify flood-prone areas and develop improved flood warning systems and emergency preparedness measures.

Local officials and department leaders are working together to assess vulnerable areas, evaluate early warning capabilities, and determine what type of flood alert systems would best serve our community. This collaborative effort ensures that both the City and County are aligned in planning and implementation.

Preparation and planning today will make a difference when severe weather events occur. SB 3 gives communities like Maverick County the opportunity to take proactive steps to better protect residents through improved coordination and early warning systems.
