Members of the Eagle Pass Fire Department recently attended a 3-day "Peer Support and Su***de Awareness Training Course" hosted by the Bexar County District 7 Fire Department.

They were joined by our partners from Eagle Pass Dispatch and the Eagle Pass Police Department because mental health doesn't know jurisdiction.

The reality of first responder life includes exposure to trauma, long hours, and cumulative stress that too often goes unspoken. This training equips our personnel to recognize warning signs, have difficult conversations, and provide support to colleagues who may be struggling.

We are committed to breaking the stigma. Asking for help is not weakness. It is survival.

Thank you to Bexar County District 7 for hosting this vital training.

Lt. Maire Katherine Aranda of the Eagle Pass Fire Department and Cpl. Raul Aranda of the Eagle Pass Police Department recently completed a week-long course at the Bexar Metro 911 Network focused on radio programming.

This specialized training now qualifies them to program radios for multiple agencies throughout Maverick County, a critical role in ensuring seamless communication between law enforcement, fire, EMS, and other emergency services during incidents.

Reliable communication saves lives. We are proud of Lt. Aranda and Cpl. Aranda for taking on this responsibility and strengthening interoperability across our county.

Ending EMS Week, our crews were treated to a wonderful lunch today delivered personally by Isela Maldonado and Retired Fire Captain Tony Maldonado on behalf of the Jorge Maldonado Foundation.

Seeing his family continue to give back in his name, especially during a week dedicated to celebrating EMS and first responders, means more than words can express. Thank you, Isela and Captain Maldonado, for delivering this meal and for keeping George's memory alive in the firehouse he once called home.

This week, we celebrate our Emergency Medical Services personnel and the critical work they do every single day. The theme for this year's EMS Week says it all: Improving Outcomes, Together.

From the 911 dispatcher who takes the call, to the EMT and paramedic who provide care on scene and en route, to the hospital staff waiting to receive the patient, every link in the chain matters. And at the center of it all is the patient.

Thank you for the long shifts, the tough calls, and the compassion you show every patient. You make a difference when it matters most.

Join us in thanking your local first responders this week!
