We now know that the fraud, erroneous payments, and outright theft from federal grant programs are an epidemic. The Trump administration issued the strictest ever proposed rules for the hundreds of federal grantmaking programs doling out hundreds of billions of dollars each year. Here are some of our favorite clamp downs:

Curtail Federal grants that are unaligned with Presidential Executive Orders and policies.
Mandate that evidence of fraud must be provided to the U.S. Attorney for DC [so the criminals can be prosecuted].
Prohibit grants that push disparate impact liability theories, discriminatory event services, Diversity Equity and Inclusion (DEI), gender ideology…
Wipe out Green New Scam grant requirements .
Forbid grants for voter registration campaigns, issue advocacy, or political activities.
Impose requirements on NGOs to provide their IRS tax code qualifications; makes agencies identify what type of scientific research they plan to fund; makes grantees subject to for-profit rules if a grantee receives 90 percent or more of their funding from grants.

Check the chart - the low number is actually BELOW ZERO!

Yike! Bailouts and Corporate welfare handouts seem to be back in fashion in Washington - in both parties. Too many Biden and now Trump federal agencies act like hedge funds, doling out tens of billions of dollars of grant and loan programs. As...

Guess what: the government already has nearly 50% ownership in big successful companies. Here’s the math:

Federal corporate income tax: 21%
State corporate income tax: 5%
Capital gains/dividend tax on stock: 23.8%
In other words, the state and local corporate income tax effectively makes government a 25% shareholder of corporations, and the tax on the distribution of the earnings via a stock sale or the dividend tax takes nearly another 25%.

Now under Bernie’s plan the government presumably snatches an additional 50% of the earnings away from the shareholders. That doesn’t leave much left over for the actual investors/owners. We can’t think of a better way of tanking these companies, unleashing a massive stock selloff, and allowing China to sprint into the technology lead.

Bernie Sanders grabbed the headlines yesterday when he proposed the U.S. government should take 50% "direct ownership" of the nation's AI companies like xAI, OpenAI, and Anthropic. OpenAI and Anthropic are not publicly traded but are getting...

Audit:
The nation’s top Medicaid official said he is upgrading the government’s technology to stop illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid.

“We now can do it a very straightforward way for the 44 states that don’t have state-based Medicaid plans for us to be able to audit it,” Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Administrator Dr. Mehmet Oz said in response to a question from the Daily Signal.

“The people that we’re paying for, our citizens or not, in the state-based plans, like I mentioned in California, there’s a few other states, Colorado, Washington, Illinois, they have their own plan, so we have to now audit their plans,” he said.

The nation's top Medicaid official says he is upgrading the government's technology to stop illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid.

California was a paradise run by able governors from both parties. But now the state is collapsing, and at the center of it is Gavin Newsom.

Over 900 members of the University of California faculty have had enough, according to the UC Student Success site, which hosts an explosive new letter.

Hundreds of professors, including dozens of STEM department chairs, ask in the letter that the UC system start requiring STEM major applicants to submit either math SAT or ACT scores.

Why?

Because the status quo is so broken that UC faculty are now teaching middle school—or even elementary—math skills to students old enough to vote.

Tired of teaching middle school math to college students, University of California faculty request the return of SAT and ACT for admissions.

American taxpayers and Medicare beneficiaries are victims of massive fraud.

The Government Accountability Office, a congressional watchdog agency, has recently estimated that taxpayers lost between $233 billion to $521 billion to fraudsters just between 2018 and 2022. Moreover, in 2025, congressional investigators reported that COVID-19 fraud in the unemployment insurance program alone amounted to $191 billion, and much attributable to transnational criminal organizations.

Fraudsters not only bilk taxpayers funding government programs, they also directly harm the patients dependent on them. Every dollar lost to fraud is a dollar lost to health and welfare benefits for eligible people.

Opportunities for theft are vast. Federal funds are often passed through state agencies, in the form of federal grants or allocations, amounting to a total of $1.2 trillion in 2025 alone. Since state agencies frequently oversee federal programs such as Medicaid, shortcomings at the state level can exacerbate issues related to fraud that negatively impact taxpayers and individuals who rely on these services.

Fraud problems beset virtually every state. But federal investigators emphasize that there are “hot spots” for this criminality. California and Minnesota are clearly hotbeds of fraud, and President Trump’s ongoing investigations there and elsewhere will likely show that the levels of corruption and the loss of billions of dollars in taxpayers’ money are significantly worse than reported thus far.

Tens of billions lost each year in US welfare programs -- and we're not even measuring it all

Last year's welfare fraud scandal in Minnesota made headlines for its brazen nature and massive scale. But it's only part of the story. Far more money slips through the cracks in the welfare system each year. No outrage ensues — but given the staggering sums involved, it should.

A recent report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) sheds light on this waste. The GAO reports that in 2025, the government's improper payments totaled $186 billion. Improper payments are those that went to an ineligible recipient, were made in the wrong amount or were made without proper verification.

More than 40% of these improper payments came from the welfare system:

--Medicaid: $37.4 billion

--Earned Income Tax Credit: $21.1 billion

--Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP): $10.2 billion

--Supplemental Security Income: $7.3 billion

--Additional Child Tax Credit: ≈ $3.6 billion

--Head Start: ≈ $1.3 billion

--Child and Adult Food Care Program: ≈ $400 million

--Foster Grandparents: ≈ $28.3 million

Total = More than $80 billion.

That's enough money to provide the annual median household income for nearly 1 million American households. That's more households than there are in Houston.
