Fun Fact Friday:

Did you know that we have a little free library located in our park?

Thanks to Elijah of Boy Scout Troop 255 we had a little free library installed in March of this year! This little free library was built to bring books, nature, and community together.

This little free library is located in our campground near the bathrooms and showers, so you can park and check it out.

So come on out and grab a book, find a tree to sit under and read one of our books. Or maybe take one home. We will also take donations if you have any books you'd like to swap or just leave for others.

Happy National Dog Day!🐾

There’s nothing your pet loves more than a walk in a (state) park.

Our designated off-leash areas give your dog space to explore, with a few important rules:

- Dogs must be under control and cannot harass people, wildlife, or other pets.
- On off-leash trails, dogs must stay within 30 feet and be under voice control.
- Owners must carry a leash and waste bags and clean up after their dogs.
- The off-leash area is a working farm, so expect flood irrigation.

Before you let your best friend run free, check the designated off-leash map on our website and make sure you’re in the right area.

Have you visited Eagle Island with your dog(s)?🦮🤎

Happy World Ranger Day!🤎

Today, we’re celebrating the dedicated park rangers who help make Eagle Island a special place. Whether they’re leading nature talks, spending time with our mascot Scout, caring for park facilities, or helping keep visitors safe, their work makes a lasting impact every day.

We are incredibly grateful for everything they do. Eagle Island (and our agency) wouldn’t be the same without this amazing team.

A special thank you to our park management, Andrew and Julia, who began their careers as park rangers, and to Jonah, George, and Tim for your dedication, hard work, and commitment to Eagle Island and its visitors.

7/26/26 Notice:

The programs for this Tuesday (7/28/26) are cancelled due to the projected poor air quality.

We hope to be able to reschedule them once the air quality has improved!

Thursday Trivia: Before we were a state park… 🐄🐖🐔

In 1929, a Prison Honor Farm was established on the former Catlin Ranch. Honor farms were minimum-security facilities where incarcerated individuals worked in agricultural operations.

Over the following decades, the farm grew to include a packing plant, milking barn, pasteurization facility, and poultry and swine operations.

Between the 1930s and 1940s, the farm raised approximately 2,000 head of cattle, hogs, and poultry. It was also designated a “Grade A dairy farm,” meaning it met the highest standards established by public health officials at the time.

Operations ended in 1977. In 1983, Eagle Island became a developed state park, and the calf barn still stands today as a reminder of the land’s human history.
