Last evening at 6:23 p.m., we were dispatched by McCurtain County 9-1-1 to a motor vehicle crash near Canoe Road and US Highway 70. Upon our arrival, Broken Bow Fire & Rescue were attempting to extricate the lone occupant of one vehicle. Our firefighters,an off duty MCSO deputy, and a passerby from Arkansas, assisted them in extracting the occupant. We attempted life saving measures and were later joined by Paramedics from McCurtain EMS and additional Deputies from the McCurtain County Sheriff’s Department. Unfortunately, the occupant did not survive.

Occupants from the another vehicle involved in the crash refused transport by EMS. We remained on scene until the Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Investigation Unit and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner cleared the scene for their investigation. We provided traffic control and assisted Eskew's Garage and Towing in clearing the vehicles and debris from the roadway.

We appreciate our colleagues from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their professionalism on the scene.

We ask that you keep the families of this crash in your thoughts and prayers. We met with the decedent’s loved ones at the scene, and they are devastated. Several passersby were witnessed filming and taking pictures of the scene that claimed the life of their loved one.

Although it is legal to photograph/video in public, any pictures or videos of an investigation scene can be considered evidence. Any device used is subject to subpoena including the person filming by investigators. Please keep these things in mind while traveling through this type of scene and posting to social media.

We cleared the scene at 10:40 pm.

Early this morning, the Eagletown Volunteer Fire Department was alerted by McCurtain County 911 of a car fire near a residence in Panki Bok. Engine 4022 made its first run from Station 2 and was supported by Truck 1 from Station 1. Due to the amount of fuel present, our firefighters used foam to extinguish the fire. As our crews were finishing loading equipment, the homeowner returned from a trip and advised that the owner of the car wasn’t there. Another person there advised that the owner had recently got the Mercedes running. The cause and area of origin of the fire couldn’t be determined. No other property was damaged.

Even after all the rain, McCurtain County District 1 drivers and our local community member/District 1 equipment operator Jeff Brandon have been assisting us in adding the finishing touches to our Panki Bok Substation. We are currently housing Engine 4022 there and will soon be housing a tanker, and a brush truck. We are still waiting for our rural water to be hooked up and are looking forward to hosting an open house soon.

District 1 foreman Joey Taylor and our county road department have been instrumental in making this happen. We appreciate Commissioner William’s office for all the hard work, assistance, and support.

*****FUNDRAISER ALERT*****

Last week, a member of our Fire Department family was involved in a terrible accident. Brooke Hadley, one of our auxiliary members, was flown to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler after receiving several serious injuries. Her husband Mitchel, who is one of our firefighters, has been at her side. We ask that you like and share this information for this fundraiser. We are also planning to have another fundraiser soon sponsored by the fire department.
