Lots of great flights yesterday with abundant lift everywhere! Nathan flew 108 miles from a 1500’ tow in E9. Patty and Dylan got their first flights in a glider. Ron awed us all again with his beautiful side slips to landings in the Cub. Even a surprise visit from Trunk Monkey!

Ron (Piper Pawnee) towing Jim and a friend (ASK-21) aloft Saturday. Hazy skies with few clouds but good lift up to 5500 feet. Sunday was better though…wish I was there!

Great soaring this weekend with awesome lift on both days. Scott got into possible wave and went to over 8000’. I made it to 5500’ a few times. Sunday afternoon had the ASK-21 with two wide bodies on aboard at 5500’. QW, our LS4 got some much enjoyed air time. Jere Maty even got to fly after instructing all day. Thanks to Ron Tuttle for the tows Saturday and Michael Froscher for the tows Sunday.@

Video shows the last part of the tow from the tow plane’s perspective. We typically tow up to somewhere around 2000-3000 feet above ground level (AGL) before releasing. Glider pilots can release when they are ready. For example if you plane to go to 3000’ but hit strong lift experienced pilots usually disconnect. Thanks to Michael Froscher for the video.

Too hot to go soaring,,,never!

Beautiful video clip of a glider launching as viewed from a camera on the towplane. The glider is a Schleicher ASK-21 and the tow plane is a Piper Pawnee. Thanks to Michael Froscher for the video.
