What a day at Station 53!

This past Thursday, Lower Providence Fire Department hosted a firefighter skills workshop for the Protective Services students from North Montco Technical Career Center. These high school students got real, hands-on time with the basics of our profession: tying knots, throwing and climbing ladders, vehicle rescue and extrication, and more. They showed up ready to work, asked great questions, and gave it everything they had.

Days like this are how we build the next generation of firefighters and first responders. Many of us got our start because someone took the time to open the bay doors and show us the job. That's what yesterday was about.

None of it happens without a lot of help. A sincere thank you to the firefighters who gave their time to teach and mentor these students:

Chief Lentz is not usually someone that brags about his personal accomplishments and successes; typically he is one to share the credit and place his team ahead of himself. This month however, everything that we have known for decades has been published for everyone to see not just the type of leader he is but the type of person he is.

We are extremely proud as an organization to be able to share his story with you and hope that you will take a few minutes to read this article, so that our community is able to appreciate what we get to see each and every day.

The LPFD will be training in the 200 block of Clearfield Avenue this evening from approximately 6:30-9:30. Other than traffic concerns, there won't be any other hazards presented from the training. Please use caution while driving through the area.

The LPFD is honored to announce that Firefighter Ryan Wells has been selected to join Montgomery County Department of Public Safety's Urban Search & Rescue Team (USAR)!

Earning a position on USAR-1 is no small feat! Ryan successfully navigated an application and physical tryout process, competing alongside top emergency responders from across the region. His dedication, technical preparation, and perseverance throughout every stage of the selection process exemplify the highest standards of our department.

Montco USAR-1 (aka Station 20) provides specialized technical rescue capabilities including collapsed structure search, high-angle rescue, and emergency trench operations across our county and beyond. In fact, Station 20's main station is located right here in Lower Providence off of Eagleville Road in the Public Safety complex. Ryan’s selection reflects both his exceptional skill set and his unwavering commitment to training at the highest level.

We are proud of Ryan for reaching this significant professional milestone, and we wish him the absolute best as he takes on this new role!

It's that time of year again, Fire Prevention Week, from October 4th to the 10th! The kiddos should expect visits from their LPFD firefighters throughout the week, then on Friday night is our annual Open House from 5:30-9:00pm. This event is free, so come up to our Eagleville station at 3199 Ridge Pike to see our apparatus & equipment displays, live demonstrations, plenty of fire safety information, and socialize with our dedicated firefighters. We look forward to hosting you this Friday October 9th!!

This year's theme is 'Charge into Fire Safety' to bring awareness to and reduce lithium ion battery fires, which can get nasty if not certified and properly charged & maintained! We will have plenty of information at Open House, but please visit the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) for more information.

It’s a gorgeous day to come out and see your LPFD Firefighters at today’s Fall Fest at Lower Providence Township until 5pm. There’s plenty to do with emergency vehicles on display, food trucks, bounce attractions, tractor rides, and more!

This past Tuesday evening, the LPFD traveled to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety's training campus for a live, structural burn session. These sessions are meant to simulate live fire conditions, therefore are imperative to our commitment to provide the highest level of service to Lower Providence and the surrounding area.

Due to a great turnout by our dedicated firefighters, we were able to complete a total of 26 evolutions in only 90 minutes(!), with a focus on can drills and basement fires. All six crews were able to complete a minimum of two evolutions with some even completing three before we had to head home!

Special thanks to crews from Worcester Volunteer Fire Department and Jefferson Fire Company No. 1 who joined us for this invaluable training session!

This morning just before 8am, the LPFD was dispatched to a reported microwave on fire in the 3000 block of Cardin Place in the Eagleville section of the Township. Chief 53 arrived with smoke showing from the front door and the resident reporting the fire had spread from the microwave into the kitchen. Chief 53 assumed command and upgraded the assignment to the working fire dispatch which called for mutual aid from Jefferson, Norristown, Norriton, Worcester, Collegeville & Trappe fire departments. Engine 53 arrived as the first due engine and secured a positive water supply, then made a quick interior attack to prevent the fire from extending any further. Crews from Tower 53, Squad 46, Squad 27, Squad 61 and Ladder 83 assisted with overhaul and ventilation. Engine 34 and Ladder 77 were diverted to Station 53A to standby and cover the township until crews were released from the scene. There were no injuries to civilians or fire department personnel. The Red Cross was called to assist the homeowners that were displaced and the cause of the fire is being investigated by the Lower Providence Fire Marshal’s office.

Great work by all crews on scene who stopped the fire in its tracks before it could extend any further, and a special thank you to all of our mutual aid partners for the assist.

Please join us and show your support on this 25th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.

On Tuesday September 1st, the Montgomery County’s 9/11 Memorial will be transported in a procession from the Emergency Operations Center in Eagleville to its new, permanent home at Elmwood Park in Norristown. Procession starts at 9AM. Expect travel delays and multiple flag details along the route.

Lower Providence Fire Department has also been selected as one of the viewing points for the procession.

As we approach the 25th anniversary of 9/11, Montgomery County’s 9/11 Memorial is moving from Eagleville to its new permanent home at Elmwood Park in Norristown.

The public is invited to watch as the memorial travels through Lower Providence and West Norriton to Norristown.
