Two of Gettys’ very best were celebrated last night as they represented Gettys Middle School as our Teacher of the Year and Support Employee of the Year!

Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Stone, we are so proud of you! You are both exceptional people and such perfect representatives of what makes Gettys so special. From the library to every corner of our school, your dedication, heart, and love for our students and our school shine through in everything you do.

📚✨ Learning by Doing at GMS! ✨📚

The first few weeks of school have been filled with hands-on learning, collaboration, and lots of creativity across our classrooms! Our Breakers are diving into new concepts and finding fun, meaningful ways to show what they know.

🔹 Mrs. Mixon’s 7th Grade Social Studies students explored population density through a hands-on activity using macaroni noodles!

🔹 Ms. Petit’s 6th Grade Social Studies students traveled back in time to Mesopotamia and practiced writing their names in Cuneiform!

🔹 Ms. Campbell’s 8th Grade Math students became the teachers! They demonstrated their understanding of square and cube numbers by leading their classmates through the concepts.

🔹 Ms. Harris’ class completed their first lab of the year! Students used the scientific process and their observation skills to investigate the question: Will peeling an orange impact whether it floats or sinks?

We love seeing our Breakers learning, exploring, questioning, and taking an active role in their education! What a great start to the school year!

🚀 Science in action! Our 7th grade students in Ms. Singleton’s science class designed, tested, and redesigned straw rockets while using the Engineering Design Process. Students made small changes, tested their designs, and learned how those changes could improve their rocket’s flight distance.

We love seeing our Breakers learn by doing, problem-solving, and having a little fun along the way!

The GMS Guidance Team led a wonderful professional development session today for all of our teachers! 💚

Our team provided valuable insight into the purpose, opportunities, and programs offered through our Guidance Department and how they support both our staff and students.

A big thank you to Ms. Martin, Ms. Charles, Mr. Nichols, and Ms. Arciniegas for all you do to keep our staff and students informed, supported, and involved! We appreciate you!
