EXTRA! EXTRA! READ ALL ABOUT IT! PUBLIC COMPOSTING COMES TO EAST AURORA!!!

Good news for the environment… good news for taxpayers… and another great example of the Village of East Aurora, the Town of Aurora, and Erie County, NY working together to make our community even better!

After the overwhelming success of our cardboard dumpster video, we’ve decided not to rush back into Hollywood just yet. We need to give DPW Foreman Jeff Stoll a little time to adjust to his newfound fame… and for people to stop randomly yelling “No! No! No!” at him on the street.

Now, on to our next project!

Introducing the Plate to Field Food Scrap Drop-Off Program

The Village of East Aurora, Town of Aurora, and Erie County are teaming up to make composting easier than ever.

We’re kicking off this pilot program with 150 FREE countertop compost buckets for residents!

Pick up your free bucket:
• Village of East Aurora residents: Village Office
• Town of Aurora residents: Town Clerk’s Office

(Available while supplies last. One bucket per household. Residents only.)

Beginning August 15
Every Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
East Aurora DPW Drop-Off Site
(The same location as our cardboard dumpster and yard waste drop-off.)

Bring your collected food scraps each Saturday, and we’ll take it from there. In another great example of intermunicipal cooperation, the Village will collect the material, and the Town will transport it to Erie County’s composting facility for composting.

Together, we’re reducing waste, keeping food scraps out of landfills, and creating something useful instead. It’s good for our environment, helps us become a more sustainable community, and demonstrates what can happen when local governments work together.

This is a pilot program, so we’d love to see our community get behind it. If it’s successful, it will help pave the way for even more sustainability initiatives in the future. Thanks to ACES- Aurorans for Climate and Environmental Sense and Raymond M Wrazen for their work on this!

Now let’s see if this program can become as popular as cardboard boxes… although Jeff may be hoping for just a little less celebrity this time…

Learning from Our Neighbors in Niagara-on-the-Lake

This week, representatives from the Village of East Aurora had the pleasure of visiting our friends in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, to learn from one of North America’s most beautiful and well-maintained communities.

A sincere thank you to Lord Mayor Gary Zalepa, Deputy Lord Mayor Erwin Wiens, and their outstanding team for their warm hospitality and for generously sharing their time, knowledge, and experience. We discussed everything from municipal finances and downtown revitalization to beautification, streetscapes, and community partnerships. It was an incredibly valuable exchange, and we came home with many ideas that can help make East Aurora even better.

Representing East Aurora were Mayor Luke Wochensky, Deputy Mayor Chelsea Root, Police Chief Patrick Welch, General Foreman Jeff Stoll, and local journalist Rick Ohler.

The relationship between the United States and Canada has always been a special one, and that is especially true here on the Niagara frontier. Our communities share history, values, and a commitment to creating vibrant places where people want to live, work, and visit. Strengthening those relationships benefits all of us.

We look forward to welcoming our Niagara-on-the-Lake friends to East Aurora in the near future. And after the wonderful reception they gave us… we now have a pretty high bar to meet! 😊

Thank you again for a fantastic visit. We can’t wait to continue the conversation.

Proposed All-Way Stops – Public Input

Following traffic studies by Erie County, the Village has received County approval to install all-way stops at the following intersections:

Center Street & South Street
Pine Street & Girard Street

The Village Board will consider authorizing the installation of these all-way stops at its meeting on Monday, July 20 (starting at 7:00 pm).

Both intersections have been the subject of community concerns for some time, and we appreciate the residents who have shared their experiences and worked with the Village throughout this process.

If you have comments—particularly if you have concerns about either proposed all-way stop—we encourage you to attend the Village Board meeting on July 20 and share your thoughts during the public comment period.

Thank you to everyone who has helped move this process forward as we continue working to improve safety throughout the Village.

Today, the Village of East Aurora was honored to welcome representatives from New York State as part of our Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) site visit.

Mayor Luke Wochensky, Deputy Mayor Chelsea Root, and village officials were pleased to welcome the DRI team and share the Village’s vision for a vibrant, walkable, and historic downtown. The visit highlighted many of the projects, partnerships, businesses, and community organizations that make East Aurora such a special place to live, work, and visit.

The Village extends its sincere thanks to the DRI team for taking the time to learn about our community and to all of our local partners who helped showcase East Aurora today. Your commitment and enthusiasm demonstrate what can be accomplished when a community works together.

Thank you to everyone who helped make today’s visit a success!
