Upper Missisquoi and Trout Rivers - UMATR - Wild & Scenic Committee In Dec. 2014, the Upper Missisquoi & Trout Rivers (UMATR) became VT’s 1st federally designated Wild & Scenic River!

UMATR flows 46.1 miles through 8 towns: Westfield, Troy, North Troy, Richford, Berkshire, Enosburg, Enosburgh Falls & Montgomery in Vermont The National Wild and Scenic Rivers System was established by Congress in 1968 “to preserve certain rivers with outstanding natural, cultural, and recreational values in a free-flowing condition for the enjoyment of present and future generations”. In December

of 2014, Vermont joined the list of states containing federally designated Wild and Scenic Rivers, when an extensive multi-year study of the Upper Missisquoi and Trout Rivers culminated in a congressional designation.

Today is the day!!! Our short film, The Celebration: Exploring Vermont’s Wild & Scenic Rivers is premiering on Vermont Public via broadcast TONIGHT, Thursday June 11th at 7:30pm.

A repeat telecast of the film will be on Sunday, June 14th at 12noon.

The film will also be available to stream VOD via the Vermont Public website and app, their YouTube channel, as well as PBS streaming applications.

The Celebration: Exploring Vermont’s Wild & Scenic Rivers is a short  documentary film shot and produced by Duane Peterson III that follows UMATR staff, Committee members, and community members across a seven day paddle and teaches audience members what it means to be a federally designated Wild and Scenic river.

This is the first of three paddle lessons that will be hosted by UMATR and NEK Guides throughout the Wild & Scenic region this summer ☀️🛶

On June 6th, join us for a guided bird walk at High Ponds Farm Nature Preserve in Montgomery. Led by FCNRCD staff and a Hazen's Notch Association naturalist, we’ll look and listen for local bird species while learning about migration, habitat, and the landscapes that support wildlife in our region.

The walk will be about 1 mile total along a relatively flat out-and-back trail.
