Today, on Labor Day, we honor the hard work and dedication of our nation’s workers and express our deep gratitude for the firefighters and first responders who put their lives on the line every day to protect others.
This year, as we near the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we remember the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice while responding to the attacks on the World Trade Center.
We also honor the thousands of active and retired firefighters, first responders, recovery workers, and volunteers from New York City, across the nation, and the globe who assisted in the rescue and recovery efforts in the months that followed.
These workers spent significant time at Ground Zero under dangerous conditions, and far too many have since died from World Trade Center-related illnesses.
The service of all who responded remains a powerful reminder of the courage, commitment, and sacrifice demonstrated by first responders and workers everywhere. ❤️
