Crossroads Fire Department Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department is located in Northern Laurel County, Kentucky, and has been serving our community for over 25 years.

Our service is dedicated in honor of Chief Basil Vaughn, who died on a wildland fire in November of 1987.

At approximately 0946 hours, Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 3000 block of Highway 490.

Our crew, along with East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue and London City Fire Department, worked together to get the fire safely under control. All units have now cleared the scene. 🚒

⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER! ⚠️

PLEASE — DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE OVER FIRE HOSES!

If you come upon a fire scene and see a hose stretched across the roadway, slow down and turn around if possible. Do NOT attempt to drive over a charged fire hose.

Those hoses are carrying a LOT of water pressure. Driving over them can damage the hose, interrupt the water supply to firefighters, and create a dangerous situation for everyone on scene.

🚒 See a fire truck? Slow down.
See a hose across the road? STOP.
See firefighters working? Give them room.

Sometimes our hoses have to cross the roadway to reach a hydrant or establish the water supply needed to fight the fire. We know it may be an inconvenience, but a few extra minutes of patience could make a huge difference when someone’s life, home, or property is on the line.

Please help us keep our firefighters, emergency personnel, and our community safe. ❤️

Slow down. Pay attention. Give us room to work.

* At 630 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado
was located over Valley Oak, or 11 miles northeast of Somerset,
moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...Tornado.

SOURCE...Radar indicated rotation.

IMPACT...Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without
shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed.
Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree
damage is likely.

At approximately 19:34 hours, Crossroads Fire Department units were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident near the 10500 block of Highway 490.

Upon arrival, crews secured the scene and assisted alongside Ambulance Inc. Of Laurel County, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office, and the London - Laurel Rescue Squad.
One patient was transported to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

The roadway has been reopened, and all responding units are back in service.

From all of us at Crossroads Fire Department, we want to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July! We hope your day is filled with family, friends, great food, and unforgettable memories as we celebrate the freedoms we cherish.

As you enjoy the fireworks, please remember a few simple safety tips:
• Keep a bucket of water or a garden hose nearby.
• Never allow young children to handle fireworks.
• Light one firework at a time and never try to relight a “dud.”
• Keep a safe distance and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
• Leave the fireworks to the professionals if you’re unsure.

Let’s celebrate responsibly so everyone can enjoy a fun and safe Independence Day! ❤️🤍💙

At approximately 0457 hours, Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department responded providing mutual aid to East Bernstadt Fire & Rescue to reports of an RV/camper fire. While units were en route, additional information was received advising that the fire had spread to multiple vehicles and was threatening a nearby residential structure.
Upon arrival, crews quickly worked to contain the fire, successfully limiting it to the RV and involved vehicles, with only minimal impact to the residence.

At approximately 1040 hours, Crossroads Fire Department responded mutual aid to a reported structure fire in the area of Little Arthur Ridge

Arriving units advised smoke showing from a single-story residence. Units worked together to extinguish the fire, all occupants were safely accounted for.

A huge congratulations to our firefighter/administrator, Casandra, on earning her Kentucky Firefighter I certification!

This accomplishment is a true reflection of your dedication, determination, and passion for serving others. The fire service requires sacrifice, countless hours of training, and a commitment to always improving and you continue to demonstrate all of those qualities every step of the way.

As our administrator, you have already given so much to keep our department moving forward behind the scenes. Now, by achieving your Firefighter I certification, you have added another way to serve our department and our community.

🧱🚒 Who says you’re ever too old to play with blocks? 😄

On Tuesday, 6/16, Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department members took part in Communications / Fire Control training and this time, a simple set of blocks became a powerful training tool!

Using teamwork, communication, and clear instructions over the radio, members worked through hands-on exercises that challenged them to think, listen, and communicate effectively under pressure. It may have looked like playtime, but these skills directly translate to the fireground where clear communication can make all the difference.

Training doesn’t always have to look the same to be effective—and we believe learning while having a little fun makes us even better.
