A message from Dr. Valeski, Superintendent of Schools:

Since we have not used all of our emergency closing days, Monday, April 18th will be a non-school day for students and non-work day for 10-month staff. Enjoy the additional day!
A message from Dr. Valeski, Superintendent of Schools:

There will be no community access to the East Brunswick High School stadium beginning Monday, March 28th as the project to replace our turf field begins.

Our track will only be used by our athletes for practice and competition and will not be available to the public during this reconstruction phase.

I sincerely appreciate the community’s patience. When we are finished, you will once again have access to “your” new track facility.

EBPS - Facilities Vision Statement - Dr. Victor Valeski
Presented at Churchill Junior High School Rising 7th Grade Parent Night on 2/23/2022.

East Brunswick Public Schools’ excellence in Academics, Athletics and the Arts continues to be among the primary attractions for new residents with school aged children. In addition to 21st Century preparedness, our students and families can access a multitude of services and supports delivered by a caring community of professionals at each of our schools.

East Brunswick is more than a Blue Ribbon school district…we are a family. We have witnessed our “family” growing over the past three years. Even now as we adjust to new realities brought about by COVID, families are making their moves to EBPS.

Thanks to a progressive and visionary Board of Education, EBPS has positioned itself as a proactive educational leader. Well in advance of the student enrollment growth forecasted by the district’s demographic study in 2019, we began to design and are about to orchestrate some of the most complex, yet necessary, changes in the history of our district.

Change is inherently hard but the rewards for our students are worth the efforts we are about to undertake..

By changing each elementary school’s grade level configuration to K-4 we free up additional space for students. This elementary aged group is currently dominating our newly registered students.

By making Hammarskjold Middle School a 5-6 upper elementary school we are able to minimize school transition difficulties encountered and reported in our former structure and provide a better school experience for students during those two important years.

Adding Temporary Classroom Units (TCU’s) at Churchill Junior High School, making it a grades 7-8-9 facility, is our biggest endeavor among all these moves. That is what you are waiting to hear about tonight.

Among our goals are two major priorities:

First, shorter term, is to clear any misconceptions about Temporary Classroom Units. They will be comfortable teaching and learning spaces that by our own design, will have a limited life. Each classroom will be comfortable, climate controlled, durable, fully equipped with our district technology, newly furnished and secure.

Second, as we look forward to next school year, we want to exceed your expectations. I am thankful to be surrounded by an amazing EB team that has prepared Churchill for this transition.

In addition to making sure your children have a positive 7th grade experience, this restructuring provides the necessary staging for what could be our most significant accomplishment…

The East Brunswick Board of Education has prudently authorized the exploration of a new high school concept with associated community use features. Our high school has been renovated and modified over its lifespan but like any aging facility the tangible and intangible costs of continuing to maintain it must be carefully weighed against replacing it.

All of these moves allow us to envision, plan, design and solicit support for a new comprehensive, state of the art, grades 9-12 high school that your 7th graders may have the opportunity to attend!

If a new high school is approved and completed, 9th grade moves to the high school and the temporary classrooms will be removed from Churchill making it a grades 7-8 middle school without further modification.

Without a doubt, there is a tremendous amount of work ahead of us but with the support of everyone here tonight, the East Brunswick community will have adequate student capacity in all schools for the next decade, as well as a flagship high school, athletic stadiums and a new performing arts center that will prepare generations of students and serve the entire community.
District update from Dr. Victor Valeski, Superintendent of Schools. We are reading a lot of social media misinformation regarding a fight at Hammarskjold Middle School that occurred this week.
Here are facts:
A fight between two students did happen.
At no time were any students arrested and no students suffered any injuries from this incident requiring transportation for medical attention.
An ambulance was dispatched to HMS for the care of another student but totally unrelated to the fight.
Please continue to use our District page as your source for accurate and factual district information regarding incidents that occur in all our schools. We will use this platform to update the EB Community on school climate issues.
