At Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County, we remain in awe of the presence and dedication of our advocates. On a monthly basis, our ED, Tim Cummings meets individually with advocates to learn more about their experience. He was grateful to share some time with Camille last week to discuss her commitment, which began in 2019.

Since joining, she has worked on 4 separate cases, serving 7 children in total (some cases include siblings). The conversation was complex, as is the nature of any experience working with traumatized children and families. Yet, as it goes, sometimes the most difficult situations can lead to the most wonderful outcomes. Camille’s commitment is a reminder that there is nothing more important than showing up with kindness and consistency, especially for a young person.

We are actively recruiting for a new cohort of awesome advocates like Camille. To learn more, click here:

New Jersey is facing a critical shortage of resource homes, making it even harder to find safe, nurturing placements for children who have already endured abuse or neglect. Our older youth, in particular, deserve the comfort and stability of a loving home after all they have experienced. By sharing this post, you can help raise awareness and maybe inspire someone to open their heart and home.

We are launching a new statewide effort to recruit resource parents.

Resource parents serve as a critical bridge during times when children cannot safely remain home. Both kinship and non-related caregivers receive comprehensive pre-service training and ongoing support.

A heartfelt congratulations to our Summer Training Cohort, now officially sworn in as Court Appointed Special Advocates. Somewhere, a child in foster care is waiting to meet you, and we are confident you will shine in your new role with CASA. Over five weeks, you dedicated countless hours to training, showing unwavering commitment to children who have been removed from their homes due to abuse and/or neglect.

Your dedication, perseverance, and compassion are exactly why we hold our volunteers in such high esteem. Thank you to our advocates, and to everyone whose support makes our mission possible. It truly takes a village, and we are grateful to have you by our side.

This is Shyamala. Her life resume is impressive: Full-time mom, retired corporate professional, active member of her community, and Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Middlesex County advocate (to name a few!). She and Executive Director Tim Cummings met for coffee to discuss her work with our organization the impact she is having with her current case.

The underlying theme of their conversation - if you are fortunate enough to be in a position to serve, find a way to do it. While the path is never straight, the potential to foster positive change for others and the lessons learned along the way are entirely worth the journey.

Motivated to be awesome like Shyamala? We’re launching our fall training for new advocates in early-October. Reach out to Recruitment and Program Coordinator, Khizran Pirmohamed at [email protected] for more details!

It’s back to school time at CASA of Middlesex County! Every year, we team up with community partners who donate backpacks filled with supplies for children in foster care across Middlesex County. We want to give a special thank you to our longtime partners, Claudia Dolan and Sam Pizzarelli from Bags of Love, for their ongoing support. Thanks to their generosity, our most vulnerable children have been able to start the school year prepared for several years now. We are truly grateful.
