Today the REPLENISH staff offered coffee, tea, hot chocolate, homemade cookies and holiday music for our food pantry volunteers! This was our small way of showing our dedicated partner volunteers how much we appreciate them and their tireless efforts! 27 food pantries picked up over 30,000 pounds of food today including fresh produce, frozen, dairy and shelf stable items for Middlesex County families ahead of the holidays. Over 4.7 million pounds of food has been distributed to date this year helping to keep our residents nourished all year round.

It's more Youth in Action! Some of our young residents took to their neighborhood streets to collect food donations in time for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Thank you again Devanshi Voleti, Adriana Bell, BSA Troop 53 &24, BSA Pack 53 &24, Piscataway Troop 80038, and the 35 youth of Middlesex Borough's annual community food drive!

And some volunteered at our REPLENISH food drive on many weekends over the summer and fall. Thank you Ingrid Pena and Vanya and Varun Jha.

You give comfort and support to neighbors you may never meet. That's something great.

Youth in action against hunger. Inspiring!

Kids rule! This past week, kids and teens from all over New Jersey helped Elijah's Promise serve our holiday guests with frozen zitis, utensil bundles, and turkey sandwiches from the teens of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun, utensil bundles from Girl Scout Troop 80340, and snack bags from USY and Kadima of North and South Brunswick at Congregation B'nai Tikvah, the students of RPRY who kindly donated snack bags, and generous donations of Delicious Orchards by The Movement Dance Centre. Thanks so much to all the youth and teen groups who dedicate their time to making our mission possible!

Way to go! We are so grateful for the initiative and thoughtfulness of our teens in Spotswood.

Our SHS chapter of the National Honor Society collected 1,085 pounds of food for donation! The annual NHS Food Drive is just one of the impactful ways that our students care for our community and contribute to making the world a better place.

Fantastic job by NHS, their officers, and their advisors Mrs. Fredricks and Ms. Robbins!

The more the better! So true when it comes to collecting food, supplies, and turkeys for folks in need ahead of the #holidayseason2021. AMAZING...absolutely #amazingwork coming from #middlesexnj youth! Since 2014, Lisa Chippendale has supported annual youth-driven food drives to reduce hunger in Borough of Middlesex, NJ and throughout #MiddlesexCountyNJ county. And every year their community influence grows.

35 youth toppled last year's food drive collection, setting a new record of 5,500lbs! Combined that with the borough's Police Dept's efforts and REPLENISH received nearly 7,000lbs of food & other essentials.

2021 Hunger Heroes

REPLENISH is thankful to all or our partners, volunteers and supporters. At this time we would like to provide special recognition and thanks to our 2021 Hunger Heroes for the work they’ve done to combat food insecurity in partnership with REPLENISH and Feeding Middlesex County. This year’s awardees are detailed below and you can watch this video to hear directly from the honorees themselves about the work they do and why it is important to them.

2021 Hunger Hero Award Recipients

The Tom Ellison Food Pantry Volunteer Hunger Hero Award of 2021
Nominations were received from our partner food pantries and the awardee was selected by the family of Tom Ellison, our warehouse manager who passed away in 2020. Tom’s dedication to REPLENISH went far above and beyond his job here, Tom made contributions and investments in the program that have left a long-lasting legacy. Betty Crews of Peter’s Pantry in Perth Amboy is this year’s recipient. Betty exemplifies Tom’s legacy of putting others before herself and always looking for ways to improve pantry operations and better serve residents.

Corporate Hunger Hero
Awarded to Liberty Coca Cola. Brian Fitzpatrick and Liberty Coca Cola have been a partner of REPLENISH for the last 13 years and have contributed over 450,000 pounds of product. Additionally, Liberty Coca Cola has provided volunteers at our facility and at food drive events as part of their commitment to giving back to the community.

Community Hunger Hero
Awarded to Isabelle Goldman. Isabelle has volunteered with REPLENISH at our facility for a couple of years. During the pandemic when we were unable to continue utilizing volunteers on site Isabelle turned her artistic talents into a fundraiser to benefit Feeding Middlesex County. She made beautiful paintings on canvases and sold them to friends and families during the holidays. All proceeds were donated to Feeding Middlesex County. (Isabelle is continuing this tradition again this year; if anyone would like to see her portfolio or purchase a painting you can contact Isabelle at [email protected])

Government Hunger Hero
Awarded posthumously to Middlesex County NJ Government Commissioner Ken Armwood for his dedication to REPLENISH, eradicating food insecurity and improving the community as a whole.

Our Story

MCFOODS was created by the Middlesex County Board of Chosen Freeholders in 1994 as a means to provide food and other basic necessities to Middlesex County residents in need. Today, the regional food bank is operated through the Middlesex County Improvement Authority and services a network of more than 100 food pantries, soup kitchens and social service agencies. Additionally, MCFOODS supplies these registered members with networking opportunities, resource-sharing tools and nutritional guidelines for clients. On a broader platform, MCFOODS is an advocate for programs and policies intended to combat hunger and poverty.
