Hermann Cares: Toys for Tots drive

On Saturday, December 10th, Hermann Cares hosted a Toys for Tots toy drive at our corporate headquarters in Monmouth Junction, New Jersey.

Toys for Tots is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year and has proudly distributed over 627 million toys to date. Hermann has been a proud sponsor of Toys for Tots since 2006, involving all our Eastern and Southwest US locations. Last year we were able to collect over 4,000 toys along with several hundred bicycles and books, and with a few days left to donate, we hope to beat that record this year!

This past Saturday was a beautiful day of sunshine, pizza, cookies, and a special appearance from Santa Claus! Thanks to our generous donors that day, we were able to fill over fifteen donation boxes for Toys for Tots – and we still have toys coming in from our Amazon wish list! Thank you to all who have donated and continue to help us deliver joy to children in need this holiday season.

We would also like to thank the South Brunswick Police Department for their promotion of and presence at the toy drive, Nomad Pizza for feeding our guests, and the Hermann staff for donating their time and support of this wonderful event. And of course – thank you to Santa Claus for stopping by to take pictures with everyone who visited our office!

We look forward to continuing our partnership with Toys for Tots and helping those less fortunate during this season for years to come.

CVSA released its 2022 Operation Safe Driver Week results. Officers in Canada and the U.S. pulled over more than 35,000 commercial motor vehicles and passenger vehicles and issued 26,164 warnings and citations to commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers engaging in unsafe driving behaviors, ranging from speeding to distracted driving. https://www.cvsa.org/news/2022-osd-week-results/

NJDEP Announces Fleet Reporting Requirement
In December 2021 the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) adopted the Advanced Clean Trucks Rule (https://www.nj.gov/dep/aqm/currentrules/Sub33.pdf).

The rule has a one-time reporting requirement for large businesses, government agencies, or contractors that operate or dispatch vehicles with a manufacturer’s gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) greater than 8,500 lbs. in New Jersey. This includes medium-duty vehicles such as vans and ¾ ton pickups and heavier vehicles such as delivery trucks, school buses, transit buses, and tractor-trailer trucks. The information is required by April 1, 2023.

National Trucking Day, October 4th (10-4). A day of appreciation to trucking professionals
As our country and world deal with the impacts of the COVID19 we are seeing how critical and important those in the trucking industry are to our way of life. The are the lifeblood to our supply chain in many ways. Those in the trucking industry continue to move the goods to stock our grocery store shelves even at an increased risk of contracting the COVID19 virus. Simply put, we should create a federal holiday on October 4th (10 - 4) for the Trucking Industry. They are an industry that is often underappreciated. And as we see first hand how vital they are it is evident that the appreciation they deserve is much, much greater. Giving them a federal holiday to be recognized for the vital, difficult, and at times dangerous work they do is well deserved.

If this petition gets 99,999 signatures by April 23, 2020, the White House will review it and respond!

TAT and the Freedom Drivers Project were in Union, NJ last Thursday at Kean University to conduct a Coalition Build meeting. Key partners included the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General, the Greater New Jersey Motorcoach Association, the New Jersey Motor Truck Association and Busing on the Lookout. The day's event brought together stakeholders from state and government agencies, law enforcement and leaders from the trucking, truck stop and bus industries. The discussion at the end of the meeting was lively with many people engaged in the issue and talking about future training and partnership opportunities. Bringing industry and law enforcement together around the crime of human trafficking at the local level is what TAT's Coalition Builds are all about!
