THANK YOU!

During EMS Week, we pause to recognize the remarkable dedication and skill you bring to the front lines. Your steady hands during chaos and unwavering commitment to saving lives do not go unnoticed.

It takes a dedicated team to keep our neighborhoods safe. Thank you to all pre-hospital care professionals (volunteer and career) who make a life changing difference every single day!

And a special thanks to our own EMS crew here at East Concord Fire Department.

Much love,
East Concord EMS Chief Ploetz and EMS Captain Goodremote

Tonight's drill was to focus on using the Jaws. These tools are used by emergency responders to pry, cut, or push apart damaged vehicle metal to extricate trapped individuals. To practice, we played Jenga where our firefighters worked together to use different tools to maneuver the blocks.

If you're interested in joining us, please stop down any Monday night at 7pm to get an application!

This time of the year is always known for brush fires. These fires are no joke. They can stretch for many acres and require numerous mutual aid companies to respond with manpower and UTVs before getting them under control. Tonight's drill we focused on all of our brush fire gear and practiced with the deck gun.

Please remember that the burn ban is still in effect until May 14th. The ban goes into effect every year as the snow melts because all the grass, branches and trees are exceptionally dry after being dormant for several months.

After our firefighters went through the brushfire gear at the hall, they took two engines out to draft from the dry hydrants and flow water through our brushfire lines (you may recognize them from our open-house every year). Brush fire hoses are different than our structure fire hoses as they do not need to hold the same high pressures that are required for fighting a structure fire. Tonight the firefighters pulled an engine up to the hydrant, started drafting, and pumped the water to the second engine that was running the hoses, also known as relay pumping. Not only do we use the fire trucks and hose lines but we also use packs that hold roughly 5 gallons of water, these allow firefighters to be more versatile and reach the areas that are harder to get a hose to.

Any questions regarding what you can and cannot burn during this time can be found on the DEC website.
