Today, we learned of the passing of journalist, author, and activist Gloria Steinem, who died at age 92.
Steinem was a pioneering journalist and one of the most influential leaders of the women’s movement. Beginning in the 1960s, she became a nationally recognized voice for women’s rights and equality.
She co-founded Ms. magazine and the National Women’s Political Caucus, helping create opportunities for women to become more involved in politics and leadership. She also helped establish Take Our Daughters to Work Day, encouraging young girls to explore future career opportunities.
In 2013, Steinem received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in recognition of her lifetime of activism and her contributions to the advancement of women’s rights.
Her life and work have also been explored through documentaries, television, and film, including the 2020 biographical film The Glorias.
Steinem was also an accomplished author. Her books include Outrageous Acts and Everyday Rebellions, Revolution from Within, Moving Beyond Words and the bestselling memoir My Life on the Road.
