The Freetown Police Association and the Freetown Firefighters Association are proud to support the community we serve—especially those who may need a helping hand as they take their next steps toward higher education.

Each year, through funds raised at our annual charity softball game, we offer a scholarship to help Freetown students offset the cost of further education. This opportunity is open to students from Apponequet Regional High School, Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical School, Bristol County Agricultural High School, and any other school where Freetown students are enrolled.

We are looking for passionate individuals pursuing careers that give back to the community. Fields of interest include (but are not limited to):

• Fire Service
• Criminal Justice
• Corrections
• Fire Science
• Emergency Management
• Social Work
• Emergency Medical Services (EMT/Paramedic)

By investing in students, we hope to inspire the next generation of community-focused professionals.

The FPA proudly appreciates and recognizes his dedication to our schools and community. It’s clear how deeply he is valued by the staff, students, and families of Freetown Elementary School. It’s equally clear how much he loves serving this town and its school each and every day.

Today we want to send a huge, heartfelt THANK YOU to Officer Medeiros— the steady, friendly, everyday hero who keeps our kids safe, smiling and mostly behaving! He shows our students what it truly means to lead with kindness, respect, and integrity.

From morning drop‑off smiles to hallway high‑fives, from keeping our campus secure to being a calm, trusted presence for every child, he shows up for our school community in all the ways that matter. Our students look up to him not just as an officer, but as a role model who leads with patience, compassion, and genuine care.

🪏❄️ A Neighborly Reminder from the Freetown Police Department ❄️🪏

As we begin to dig out from the storm, we ask everyone to please keep their neighbors in mind, especially older adults, those with medical conditions, or anyone who should limit or avoid strenuous activity like shoveling.

If you’re able, consider lending a helping hand. Please don’t assume that everyone has been able to hire someone to clear their driveway or walkway. Many snow removal services are advertised online and through social media, and some residents—particularly seniors—may not have access to those platforms.

A simple check-in, a quick conversation, or offering a few minutes of help can make a meaningful difference.

Looking out for one another is what makes Freetown a strong community. Thank you for doing your part and helping keep our neighbors safe. 💙

🚨 SNOW EMERGENCY & PARKING BAN 🚨

❄️ Effective TODAY at 1:00 PM ❄️

Due to the ongoing snowstorm and in accordance with Town of Freetown bylaws, a Snow Emergency has been declared and a parking ban on ALL public roadways will be in effect:

🕐 Starts: Today (1/25/26) at 1:00 PM
🕘 Ends: Tomorrow (1/26/26) at 9:00 AM

🚫 NO vehicles may be parked on any public street or way during this time.

This parking ban is necessary to:
• Allow snow plows and emergency vehicles to safely clear roadways
• Ensure access for Police, Fire, and EMS
• Maintain public safety throughout the storm

🚗 Vehicles left on public roadways may be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

🏠 Residents are encouraged to:
• Park in driveways or other permitted off-street locations
• Limit travel unless necessary
• Check on neighbors who may need assistance

📢 Updates will be provided as conditions change.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE FREETOWN POLICE ASSOCIATION

As we prepare for Retired Chief Carlton E. Abbott, Jr., Esq.’s visiting hours this afternoon, it still feels surreal to be writing these words. His unexpected passing has left a profound impact on all of us who had the privilege of knowing and serving under him.

On behalf of the members of Freetown Police Association, we are deeply saddened by the loss of a man who served as Chief of Police for 25 years. During that time, Chief Abbott shaped the careers of countless members of this Association. He was a respected leader, a steady presence, and someone who genuinely cared about the people he led and the community he served.

On a personal level, I will always be grateful to Chief Abbott for giving me my first opportunity in 2010 when he hired me as a dispatcher, and again in 2013 when he gave me the opportunity to become a police officer in Freetown—a community that truly is a great place to work. I had the privilege of working under his leadership for 13 years, and I know I am just one of many whose career was influenced by his trust and guidance.

As an Association, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Chief Abbott’s family and loved ones. His legacy lives on through the men and women he mentored, led, and believed in—and he will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Chief.
