Blue Wave brings big wins to East Greenbush local elections
Hollie Kennedy and Liz Koenig elected to serve on the East Greenbush Town Board.
East Greenbush, NY — Hollie Kennedy has been re-elected to serve a third term as a member of the East Greenbush Town Board, after earning the trust and confidence of the town’s voters with her commitment to responsible leadership, transparency, and community collaboration.
Liz Koenig also won a seat in the election with 2,747 votes to serve her first term as a town board member, with her victory creating a Democratic super majority on the board.
There was a significant uptick in votes for Democrats in East Greenbush and a decrease in votes for Republicans this election cycle. Votes for Kennedy (2,766) increased by 15.4% from 2021 to 2025.
Kennedy and Koenig pledged to focus on issues that directly improve the quality of life in East Greenbush, continuing on the town’s efforts to preserve community character while spurring economic growth in line with the town’s comprehensive plan and recent zoning update. A top priority will be to provide the East Greenbush Police Department with a long-overdue new facility through a transparent process that ensures fiscal responsibility and community input.
“I am honored to continue serving the people of East Greenbush and thank the many friends who have instilled their trust in me to continue leading,” said Hollie Kennedy. “My goal is to strengthen trust in local government by being open, accountable, and responsive to our residents’ needs through continued collaboration with my fellow town board members, town staff, and community stakeholders.”
Liz Koenig said, “My focus is on tangible results, community unity, and fostering pride in East Greenbush as a special place to live. We’re ready to roll up our sleeves and work together with folks to continue moving the town forward in a practical, positive, and inclusive way.”
Kennedy and Koenig will continue advancing the Gilligan Road Side Path project with expected completion in 2026, a key investment in safety and recreation for residents. They also plan to coordinate with the newly elected Mayor of Rensselaer and City Council members to press for closure of the Dunn Landfill. These efforts will address long-standing environmental and public health concerns affecting our communities.
Other priorities include strengthening public safety and public works, ensuring that town infrastructure keeps pace with growth, encouraging innovative ideas that serve the best interests of all East Greenbush residents, and improving parks and trails throughout for residents and visitors alike.
Hampton Manor Park will see upgrades to the community building and Woodland Eckman Park is next on the project list beginning with a public open house to discuss potential design concepts. Kennedy and Koenig will gauge each neighborhood's interests with respect to recreational preferences.
For more information or to stay informed about upcoming initiatives, residents are encouraged to follow official town communications and to attend the town’s board meetings.
