As the sun is setting on a beautiful November 18 Saturday, Sylvan Lake is calm. One lonely fisherman is trying his luck and the leaves are cleared for hopefully the last time. God gave us a pretty good fall this year.

At this point we have had over 40 people vote absentee at City Hall. A number of them have made mistakes that we have corrected as we witness the forms they have filled out. The entire absentee process takes around 30 minutes to fill out the paperwork in order to get an absentee ballot. To those people who request a ballot via the absentee Application forms just sent out by the Secretary of State’s office to their homes, I would question how many people will fill them out correctly and if they will count. They don’t get a second chance to fix it via absentee ballot and the vote will not count.

We will have the polls open at East Gull Lake City Hall on Tuesday November 3rd from 7AM to 8 PM just like we have for East Gull Lakes entire history. We will have 5 to 6 trained election judges that will guide each person through the process and a electronic machine that scans their ballot and will reject it if they make a mistake. We can then issue another ballot and they can correct the mistake.

For less time than it takes for them to check out at Fleet Farm, they can go through the entire process to vote in person that has been proven for many years. Please don’t be afraid to vote in person.
