The East Hampton Town Police Department, in partnership with the Sag Harbor Village Police Department and East Hampton Village Police Department, is proud to announce the inaugural East End Youth Police Academy, a free, week-long summer educational program for students entering grades 8 through 12.

The 2026 Youth Police Academy will take place July 27 through July 31, 2026, and is designed to provide students with a firsthand look into the world of law enforcement through interactive, hands-on experiences. Participants will learn about various aspects of police work, including criminal procedure law, investigations, search and seizure, handcuffing techniques, active shooter response, room and building clearing, and use of force policies. Students will also take part in physical training, simulation exercises, and demonstrations involving the Emergency Service Unit, drone technology, and marine / dive units.

“Our goal is to educate, inspire, and empower young people while building leadership, teamwork, and a better understanding of the role police officers serve within the community,” the departments stated jointly.

Applications are now being accepted. Scan the QR code for additional information and application details.

Today, our members joined fellow East End law enforcement agencies in participating in the Special Olympics New York Torch Run. This leg of the run covered 13.1 miles from Montauk to East Hampton, carrying the “Flame of Hope” in support of the incredible athletes of Special Olympics New York.

The Law Enforcement Torch Run helps raise awareness and funds for Special Olympics programs while promoting inclusion and support for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

A big thank you to all of the participants, including our members Michelle Topping, Corin Ingui, Luis Morales, Ken Alversa and Grace Peterson.

National Police Week is celebrated on whatever week May 15 falls in, under President Kennedy’s decree to honor the men and women who risk their lives every day in the line of duty — it takes place from May 10 to 16 this year. It is also a time for police officers to honor their fallen colleagues, make sure those surviving them are supported, as well as to remember their commitment to keeping people safe. Citizens and civilians can also celebrate the day by showing some love and gratitude to the police officers around them. National Police Week is all about honor, gratitude, remembrance, servitude, and peer support.

This morning our members joined approximately 900 participants for the MayDay 5K run, in East Hampton Village, in support of mental health awareness. Events like today help break the stigma, encourage conversation, and remind those who may be struggling that they are not alone.

As we move through May, recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s important to continue these conversations both on and off the job. Mental health is just as critical as physical health. Taking the time to check in on yourself, as well as your fellow members, can make a meaningful difference.

Let’s continue to support one another, raise awareness, and promote the importance of mental wellness throughout the month and beyond. Thank you to everyone who took part today.
