UPDATED PRESS RELEASE
August 28, 2026

On August 27, 2026, at approximately 4:21pm, the East Hampton Police Department, East Hampton Fire Department, East Hampton Ambulance and the Colchester Fire Department responded to a dump truck vs motorcycle accident near the intersection of Gulf Rd. and Colchester Ave.

As a result of the crash two individuals on the motorcycle received serious injuries. Due to their injuries, two Life Star crews responded to the scene. One of the individuals on the motorcycle died at the scene and the other person was taken by Life Star to Hartford Hospital. The extent of his injuries is not known at this time.

Anyone witnessing the accident is encouraged to contact the East Hampton Police Department at 860-267-9544. The accident is being investigated by the Department’s Accident Reconstruction Team.

UPDATED INFORMATION: The deceased person has been identified as Jaime Brouwer, 49 years of age, from Jewett City, CT.

No other information is being released at this time.

This evening the East Hampton Police Department will be participating in the National Night Out event that is held annually around the United States each year. National Night Out is designed to enhance the relationship between the neighborhood and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all fifty states, and this will be the second year that the East Hampton Police Department will be participating. In order to make this event even bigger the Fire Department and Ambulance Association will be participating as well. The event will take place at Sears Park on North Main St. between 5- 8:30pm and will include a bounce house, free ice cream, giveaways, and the chance to view police, fire, and EMS vehicles and their equipment.

The East Hampton Police Department was recently notified that several residents and contractors have received fraudulent invoices from someone claiming to be from the Town of East Hampton Planning & Zoning Division. The fraudulent invoices are sent via email and appear to be very official and even contain the name of the Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Commission, Ray Satorski.

The fraudulent email address that the invoices are being sent from in this case is Town of East Hampton Planning & Zoning Division

Please read the following importanat message from Chief Woessner:

Over the past several weeks the Department has seen an uptick in vehicles being entered and items stolen from the vehicle. The incidents have occurred in various location throughout Town and other towns have been dealing with the same issues. In most cases these types of crimes are preventable, PLEASE LOCK YOUR CAR DOORS. Leaving your car unlocked increases your chances of becoming a victim. In the past we have received surveillance videos from residents that captured individuals walking up to their car while it was parked in their driveway and trying the car doors. When they find it locked, they leave. We have also seen videos of what happens when the doors are left unlocked.

If you encounter someone trying to enter or steal your car, DO NOT attempt to engage these individuals. Dial 911 immediately. Some of them are known to carry guns or other weapons and it is not worth it to get injured protecting your personal property.
