As of early this morning, all residents and businesses in East Hampton had power restored, including nine that were without power late Tuesday. Some of those without power Tuesday were the result of tree limbs that dropped or incidents that occurred after the storm., but all are restored. DPW tree debris removal from fallen street trees may pause momentarily while the Department prepares for East Hampton Old Home Days, which begins tomorrow and includes the parade on Saturday. Once that work is complete, the Department will resume collection of debris from street trees and other duties. Thanks to them along with the East Hampton, CT Volunteer Fire Dept, East Hampton Police Department, Eversource and other responders for the work to reopen roads and respond to issues.

As of this morning, about 250 East Hampton customers remain without power, which is down from a peak of about 1900. With one known exception, trees and power lines have been removed from blocked roads and all roads are passable. Eversource is on the scene with its contractors at the last road to be opened but is dealing with a leaking transformer and the related environmental cleanup. Town Staff continues to work with Eversource representatives to track restorations and urge Eversource to complete that work as quickly as possible. We are expecting full restoration by tomorrow night. As has been reported on the news, the electrical system suffered significantly in the storm Saturday night and it is expected that it will take days for some communities to be fully restored.

Tax Bill Delivery for Residents With PO Box

The East Hampton Post Office will no longer deliver tax bills that list only a street address without the corresponding PO Box number. To ensure timely delivery of your tax bills and other important correspondence, please verify that your mailing information is accurate and complete.

Residents who currently reside in the Middle Haddam or Cobalt areas of East Hampton are reminded to ensure that both their PO Box number and street address are listed on all motor vehicle registrations. This information can be updated by visiting the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles website at https://dmv.service.ct.gov

Additionally, please update your mailing address information with the Town for all real estate and personal property accounts to include both your street address and PO Box number.

If you did not receive your tax bill, please contact the Tax Collector’s Office by email at [email protected] to request a duplicate copy. You may also view and pay your bill online by visiting www.easthamptonct.gov and selecting “Pay My Bill.”

Please see this notice from DEEP and our Town of East Hampton Lake Commission about protecting some fledgling eagles that live on Lake Pocotopaug from fireworks. Cooperation from everyone is appreciated.

Working together to Protect one of Lake Pocotopaug’s most remarkable residents.

There is a new bald eagle nest on Lake Pocotopaug. What you may not realize is that our lake has become one of Connecticut’s bald eagle success stories.

The Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection recently shared guidance with the Conservation Lake Commission regarding fireworks and the active eagle nest. Young eagles are expected to remain in the nest through early July, and loud, unpredictable disturbances can cause them to leave the nest before they are ready to fly, a situation that can lead to serious injury or death.

While we all enjoy celebrating summer holidays with family and friends, we are asking lake residents and visitors to help us protect these young eagles by avoiding fireworks on and around the lake until after July 15.

This nest exists because our community has worked together to be better stewards of Lake Pocotopaug. Let’s continue that tradition and help ensure these young eagles have the chance to successfully take flight.

Line striping in the Village Center area and on the newly paved portion of Main Street will be conducted overnight Tuesday into Wednesday, June 2 and 3, weather permitting. Work is expected to begin at 6pm Tuesday and is expected to be complete by 6am Wednesday. The work will include the Main Street parking lot, which will be closed to new parking prior to 6pm Tuesday. Those desiring parking in the Village Center are directed to the Town parking lots at the Congregational Church, at 103 Main Street across from the Gulf station near the Library/Senior Center, and at 94 Main Street across from Po’s Rice and Spice. All are thanked for their patience as the Town completes this project.
