Our Nutritional Services Team is planning ahead for Back-to-School breakfasts and lunches. Thanks to the State of CT we will be able to start the 22/23 school year with free meals for all students.

Although congress failed to extend the waivers that allowed us to feed all students for free throughout the school year, the State of CT has stepped up to help our families by providing funding that will allow us to start the school year giving all students access to school lunch and breakfast at no charge. Once the funding runs out, which we estimate will be in the late fall, all schools in CT will go back to full price meals except for students who qualify for free or reduced meals. We will provide more detailed information as we receive it and will provide the Free and Reduced Meals Application on our website as soon as it is available. We encourage all families who believe they may qualify for free or reduced meals to apply. If you have any questions, please email Jen Bove at [email protected].

The East Hampton Board of Education is considering hiring security officers for the East Hampton Schools. The High School currently has one Armed Security Officer (see details below). The Board is considering both School Resource Officers (current police officers) and/or Armed Security Officers (retired police officers).

In order to assess the public interest in armed school security, the Board has arranged for a Public Hearing at the Town Hall on Monday, July 25 at 6:00 PM. All community members are welcome to address the Board; however, the Board is most interested in the opinions of those parents whose children will be attending Memorial, Center, and/or the Middle School. Prepared comments will be limited to 3 minutes. If parents are unavailable that evening, written comments will be shared with the Board (but not read at the Public Hearing). Comments can be sent to the Superintendent of Schools, Paul K. Smith at [email protected].

In addition, during the week of July 25, the Board of Education will send out a survey to all parents of students entering Grades PK-8 with an opportunity to answer a single question in regards to the hiring of security at the schools. Results will be shared with the public.
