East Hartford High School seniors began their last "First Day of School" together at the annual Senior Sunrise!

About 6,400 students across East Hartford Public Schools headed back to class Wednesday for the first day of a new school year. WELCOME TO TEAM EHPS! 27 educators joined us for New Teacher Orientation earlier this week exploring topics including technology, human resources, special education, and supporting English language learners. They also had the opportunity to get to know their buildings and prepare for a successful school year ahead!

Please join us in welcoming 𝐃𝐚𝐰𝐧 𝐃𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐲 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐏𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐄𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐇𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐧𝐮𝐦 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥! She joins us from Middletown Public Schools where she worked for two decades. Most recently, she served as Supervisor of School Readiness, Early Learning and Family & Community Engagement, strengthening early learning experiences and improving outcomes for children and families. Prior to this role, Ms. Dubay served as School Readiness Coordinator leading initiatives across community-based preschool programs and eight elementary schools.

She began her career in education as both a classroom and special education teacher across kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd and 5th grades. She spent ten years teaching kindergarten, which inspired her passion for closing the school readiness gap and ensuring every child has the foundation they need to thrive in school.

✂️ Fresh cuts for the start of school! Yesterday, we partnered with Exclusive Cuts to provide free haircuts for our students and help our school community start the year feeling confident and ready to learn.

A big thank-you to Exclusive Cuts for giving back to our students through 115+ free haircuts, plus our Synergy High School and Bilingual Family Support Specialist teams for organizing this event!

Prior to joining EHPS, Ms. Wissinger served as Principal of Granite Valley School (grades 1-6) in Monson, MA. There she led a comprehensive, data-driven school improvement process with a strong focus on culture and high-quality instruction.

Her leadership experience also includes serving as an Assistant Principal and District Instructional Technology Coach in Hartford, as well as 13 years as an English teacher and Grade Level Lead at Hartford Public High School. Throughout her career in education, she has supported diverse student populations, including multilingual learners, and has championed innovative instruction, collaborative leadership, and continuous improvement.
