In East Hartford, more than 3 in 4 students say their peers would disapprove of underage drinking, proof that healthy choices are already the norm. Knowledge helps young people make informed decisions. Nearly 74% of East Hartford students believe regular ma*****na use carries a moderate or great risk, but there is still room for education. Honest conversations about how cannabis can affect memory, learning, attention, and decision making during adolescence can help teens make healthier choices.

El conocimiento ayuda a los jóvenes a tomar decisiones informadas. Casi el 74% de los estudiantes de East Hartford cree que el consumo regular de ma*****na conlleva un riesgo moderado o alto, pero todavía hay oportunidades para continuar educando. In East Hartford, 97% of students reported they did not drink alcohol in the past 30 days, nearly 97% did not use ma*****na, and nearly 98% did not v**e ni****ne. Healthy choices are the norm, and every student has the power to help create a positive, supportive community.

As students prepare to head back to school, it's important to recognize what they're juggling. In East Hartford, academics and future plans are the top sources of stress for high schoolers, with nearly 1 in 3 reporting high stress in both areas. Across all grades, about 1 in 4 students report feeling anxious almost always or always. Encourage healthy coping strategies like exercise, journaling, spending time outdoors, or talking with a trusted adult.

Mientras los estudiantes se preparan para regresar a clases, es importante reconocer todo lo que están enfrentando. En East Hartford, los estudios y los planes para el futuro son las principales fuentes de estrés para los estudiantes de escuela secundaria, y casi 1 de cada 3 informa niveles altos de estrés en ambas áreas. CALM: Counseling on Access to Lethal Means
= CALM conversations

Please join us for a free in-person su***de prevention training, open to the community. This session will be facilitated by Nicole Bengston, Program Coordinator Su***de Prevention from Amplify CT.

This training will take place on September 24, 2026 at the East Hartford Community Center, 50 Chapman Place from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm.

CALM is a training where participants will gain additional skill to add to their strategies to reduce the risk of su***de with at-risk people while respecting their rights and autonomy. The session includes discussion around recognizing warning signs, asking about su***de, connecting individuals to support and focusing on increasing safety of firearm and medication strategy.
