The Michigan State University Department of Police and Public Safety (MSU DPPS) is a coalition of bureaus and divisions that, together, work to ensure the safety and security of everyone on Michigan State University’s campus. The department is made up of four bureaus — Police Services, Public Safety, Support Services, and Health Sciences Security — that together provide comprehensive, 24/7 safety

services with the highest level of transparency and accountability. This integrated approach aims to meet the dynamic security needs of students, faculty, staff, and visitors, empowering all people to feel safe and at home as part of the Spartan community.

Yesterday, to commemorate Memorial Day, members of MSU Police joined first responders from the Meridian Township Police, Meridian Township Fire Department, and the East Lansing Fire Department for our second annual Murph at Nitro Performance CrossFit. The Murph Challenge is completed nationwide in honor of Navy SEAL Lt. Michael P. Murphy, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2005. Each participant takes on a 1‑mile run, 100 pull‑ups, 200 push‑ups, 300 squats, and a final 1‑mile run — a demanding tribute that reflects service, sacrifice, and resilience. We’re proud of everyone who stepped up to complete this Memorial Day tradition.

We are grateful for our police officers who serve the Spartan community each day with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to safety. We also pause to honor the officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their courage and service leave a lasting legacy, and we hold their families, friends, and fellow officers in our thoughts as we reflect on their profound contributions.

Our community gathered in Lansing on Monday for the Annual Candlelight Memorial Service, an event dedicated to honoring the law enforcement officers who gave their lives in the line of duty. This ceremony brings together families, colleagues, and supporters to remember the courage and sacrifice of Michigan’s fallen officers, offering both reflection and unity.

MSU Officer Luke Silver stood in solemn vigil during the wreath‑laying tribute, representing our department with dignity as we remembered those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

We remember. We honor. Always. 💙🕯️
