It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of our dear friend and coworker, Branden Friday, on May 9, 2026.

Branden will be remembered for his incredible kindness and for the way he made everyone around him feel seen, heard, valued, and supported. His smile could brighten any room, and he always knew how to make us laugh with his matter-of-fact sayings. We will forever cherish the gems of wisdom he shared throughout the years. We will also fondly remember the bug bracelets and jackets/sweaters he wore during the summer, because Michigan is “so cold”.

The impact Branden had on the children, families, school-age programs, and the community he served will never be forgotten. He touched countless lives through his compassion, encouragement, and genuine care for others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and working alongside him.
Please keep his family, friends, and loved ones in your thoughts during this difficult time. May they find comfort in the memories they shared with him and in the lasting legacy he leaves behind.

The City of East Lansing is aware of a scam attempting to solicit payment for acceptance to the East Lansing Art Festival. Please be aware organizers are no longer accepting artists, vendors and performers for the 2026 festival, and applications will not open for the 2027 festival until this fall.
