Attention MSU students,

In light of the recent devastating incidents of bias on our campus, I have listened to uncountable students express the need for an equity, diversity, and inclusion training for faculty, staff and students. In the spirit of actively supporting all CORES and COPS groups who have been working hard for a wholesome Spartan experience for each one of us, I have drafted the bill below.

As one of two James Madison representatives at ASMSU, my vision is to introduce the bill to ASMSU (the student government), to the University Council (the General Assembly for students, faculty, and admin) and to any other institutions on campus that can help with fruition.

In transparency and partnership, I am opening the bill up to each student to question, share ideas, and feedback with me.
you are a student org, please share with your constituents so they can comment all they have on the doc. I am deeply grateful to the numerous students who have done so already. I know that if we work together, SPARTANS WILL enact an even more united Spartan home for each student!

Am still in shock!!! So Last night was so surreal at ASMSU (your student government). The General Assembly unanimously passed the to Advocate and Negotiate for the consistent provision of Halal dietary options in at least one dining hall in each neighborhood on MSU's campus. Passing this bill became more than a personal fight for me. I could not even sleep at all on several nights this week at the thought that numbers of my James Madison and MSU Muslim constituency have experienced their bodies shrink and their health depreciate because they cannot consistently find Halal food (the most basic necessity for education) in our dining halls. Many more who do not have families around here to provide them their dietary options have had to resort to Haram (forbidden foods) because "it was a matter of life and death so [I] had no choice." Considering that food should never be a hinder to education, there was no question on the first bill I'd be authoring, and Adam Green would be seconding this semester.

Last night during deliberations, I saw more allyship than I had ever experienced within a sitting. Our General Assembly members voiced their support for our food to become ALL inclusive. Their empathy and advocacy for our Muslim community on campus was evidence that we, the united student body, can be the greatest bolsterers of change on our campus. I cannot be grateful enough for every single person who contributed in some way to this bill. My Dear JMC students... I am out here at South Case for you today. I'll be here for 7 hours in total today. Thank you to all the awesome people who have stopped by so far. If you haven't done so yet, come over and chit chat. Ask me both political and personal questions. I am excited to share pieces of my past, my culture, and my life with you. I'd also appreciate listening to you and getting to know you. After all, why would you vote for somebody you cannot have a genuine relationship with?
