The Layton Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the individual(s) responsible for causing significant damage to the electrical lighting system at the northeast baseball field in Ellison Park, located at 700 N 2200 W.

The damage occurred sometime between July 14 and July 16, 2026. Investigators are requesting information from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who may have details that could help identify those responsible.

🔥 PUBLIC ASSISTANCE REQUEST – COSTA VIDA FIRE INVESTIGATION 🔥

On Saturday, July 4, at 11:54 p.m., Layton Dispatch received multiple 911 calls reporting flames coming through the roof of the Costa Vida restaurant located at 630 W 1425 N. Firefighters responded quickly and worked to bring the fire under control. At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. While there were fireworks in the area, it is currently unclear if that was the cause of the fire. Investigators are currently working to determine what sparked the flames.

Investigators are asking for the public's assistance. If you witnessed anyone lighting fireworks near the Costa Vida restaurant before the fire, or if you have photos, videos, or any information that may assist investigators, please contact Layton Police & Fire Dispatch at 801-497-8300 and reference case L26-17389.

We appreciate the community's assistance and cooperation as we work to determine the cause of this fire.

Women’s Assault Defense Course - Free Community Class 🚨 Layton Police Department is hosting a Women’s Assault Defense Course focused on empowering women with knowledge and practical skills. The class will be July 16th from 530 PM to 900 PM at the Layton Police Department. In this class you’ll learn the warning signs and risk factors of sexual assault, discover actions that can help prevent an assault, and participate in hands-on instruction of simple, effective tactics. The course is open to women 14 years of age or older (minors must be accompanied by and adult). Officers from the Layton City Police Department Traffic Division are currently on scene at approximately 2000 East Oak Hills Lane investigating a fatal traffic accident. Please avoid the area and plan alternate traffic routes as the area will remain closed for several hours.

TRAFFIC ALERT - Layton Police are currently investigating a serious accident. The area between 1800 East Oak Hills and 2250 East Oak Hills is closed to both east and westbound traffic (highlighted in red).

Yesterday, the Layton Fire and Layton Police Departments responded to a residential structure fire in the area of Hill Villa and Main Street. The incident was a reminder of the courage, professionalism, and dedication displayed by our Fire Department every day.

Upon arrival, fire personnel faced multiple challenges: an active residential fire, reports of an animal stuck inside, and a downed, live power line threatening multiple residents and a nearby restaurant. Despite dangerous conditions, firefighters entered the burning home and located the dog, who was unresponsive and not breathing. Through their quick action, training, and determination, they successfully revived the dog and transported it to a nearby Emergency Veterinary clinic.

Incidents like this highlight the selfless commitment our firefighters make to protect lives - both human and animal - while putting themselves in harm's way.

On behalf of the Police Department, we want to extend our sincere appreciation and recognition to the Layton Fire Department for their outstanding work, teamwork, and dedication to serving our community. Thank you for all you do!
