Day 2 of Clay Academy! ✨
We started the morning playing Doorknob Toss, an East Liverpool pastime. Then, we headed over to the Fiesta Tableware Company (FTC) located in Newell, West Virginia. Clay campers were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the factory and learned how the iconic Fiesta ware is manufactured. Campers witnessed that the true heart and soul of the FTC is its dedicated workforce, some of whom represent generations of local pottery families. Above their factory entrance door states “Through these portals pass the best potters in the world.” The legendary phrase serves as a daily reminder of the dedication, skill, and pride of the artisans who craft every single piece of dinnerware. Thank you Fiesta Dinnerware for having us today!
Following the tour, campers participated in a “Paint a Plate” session at the factory. They used vibrant glazes to create a one-of-a-kind keepsake that they can treasure for years to come.
Lunch was generously provided by Friendly Jacks. Thank you very much!
Following lunch, campers were back in the clay studio practicing their handbuilding and throwing skills.
It was a great day! 🎉
