The Bend is located along the Mississippi River in East Moline, Illinois, part of the bi-state region in Iowa/Illinois known as the Quad Cities. The sprawling 132 acres of prime riverfront real estate is the Quad Cities’ largest flood protected space on the river.

This former industrial site is being transformed into a vibrant livable community. Open spaces, public parks and the river will surround beautiful hotels, apartment complexes, shops, offices, restaurants, and other amenities. Creating an inspiring place to live, work, shop, visit and enjoy.

James DeStefano, a leader in master planning of communities and developments, saw a riverfront site with few disadvantages, providing a canvas to create a master plan for a practical development with abundant open space for each area to shine.

Focused on river views and creating a vibrant livable community, this master planned mixed-use development will be the largest development of its kind in Illinois.

This 132-acre site sits on a bend in the Mississippi River. It is the largest flood protected section of land in the Quad Cities. Although industrial plants are nearby this master planned site will focus on the natural environment, integrating and adding to the visitors’ experience. Designed to be a place where you can shop, live, work and play in spaces that are functional, beautifully designed and enjoyable.

Following DeStefano’s plan the rest of this design team to put their distinct style into each area. A hotel concept was created that will feature two of the Hyatt brands side by side, a first for Hyatt, as well as beautiful river views. Margaret McCurry looked at the residential living spaces and created apartments that integrate the river and the living environment for the people that will live there. Tom Oslund created beautiful open spaces, an inviting park and an ampitheatre unlike anything else in the area. And finally Stanley Tigerman reinvisioned the retail components in new and whimsical ways.

The Bend will indeed be a showcase of talent but even beyond that it will be a community engaging people with places, spaces and amenities in a new and exciting way.
