Do you know what to do with those dead batteries?

All household batteries must be recycled and should not go in your regular trash. This is especially important for lithium batteries, which are considered hazardous and can create serious fire risks when thrown away.

Illinois residents can use the Battery Network to find a nearby drop-off location for household batteries. Lithium batteries may also be taken to the Electronics Recovery Center at 5650 Carey Avenue in Davenport.

We know the Tyson Foods plant closure in Joslin is affecting workers and families across the Quad Cities region, including here in East Moline.

An upcoming hiring event through the American Job Center can help connect impacted workers with local employers, available positions and resources for next steps.

Veterans and families! The Quad Cities Vet Center and Anonymously Grateful is hosting a Veterans Assistance Day on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m-5 p.m. at Cornerstone Church, 775 E. Le Claire Road in Eldridge.

This is an opportunity to connect veterans with information and resources related to VA benefits, healthcare, education, career support and local veteran services. There will be several local organizations will be on site to share support and answer questions.

East Moline, you’re looking good!

15th Avenue is showing off these days. New pavement, decorative pavers, lighting and seating are all coming together — and we’re loving the progress!

Over on 12th Avenue, things are moving along, too. One side is now fully paved, and next week traffic will shift to the new pavement as crews jump into the next phase.
