🔥 Weekly Training: Man vs. Machine 🔧

This week, members of the Norriton Fire Engine Company trained on “Man vs. Machine” rescue techniques—situations where a patient becomes trapped, entangled, impaled, or otherwise caught in an object or piece of equipment.

Crews practiced techniques for scenarios such as removing rings from swollen fingers, freeing patients trapped in machinery, stabilizing and managing impaled objects, and handling other unique entrapment situations.

These incidents can require patience, precision, teamwork, and creative problem-solving. Regular hands-on training helps our volunteers stay prepared to safely handle the unexpected when every movement matters.

Interested in becoming part of the team? Norriton Fire Engine Company is always looking for dedicated community members interested in volunteering. No prior experience is necessary—training is provided.

Today, we celebrate the men and women who answer the call—not because they have to, but because they choose to serve.

Being a volunteer firefighter means giving up nights, weekends, holidays, family time, and countless hours to train, respond, fundraise, maintain equipment, and be there for our community when people need us most.

To every volunteer firefighter who has ever put on the gear, climbed aboard the truck, stood watch, or simply said “I’ll be there”—thank you. Your dedication, sacrifice, courage, and commitment do not go unnoticed.

And to the families who support our volunteers, waiting at home while we respond to calls—thank you, too. Your sacrifice is just as important.

Today, we proudly recognize our members and all volunteer firefighters across the country.

Positive WNV mosquito collections

The Montgomery County Office of Public Health (MCOPH) has collected a mosquito sample that has tested positive for West Nile Virus in your Township/Borough. MCOPH will continue to monitor the area. If adult mosquito control is recommended, the County will provide the details.

This is one collection at the Norristown Farm Park that was divided into 2 subsamples.

🌊 Water Rescue Training 🚒

This week, members of the Norriton Fire Engine Company took advantage of the summer weather to conduct hands-on water rescue training.

Crews practiced essential water rescue techniques, giving our members the opportunity to sharpen their skills and stay prepared for water-related incidents.

A special thank you goes to Bentwood Apartments for allowing our members to utilize their pool for this training. Community partnerships like this provide our volunteers with valuable opportunities to train in realistic environments and better prepare to serve East Norriton Township and our surrounding communities.

Last week, the Norriton Fire Engine Company and the Jefferson Fire Company No. 1 hosted our annual Golf Outing at Jeffersonville Golf Club. Despite the summer heat and a few passing raindrops, everyone had a fantastic day filled with great golf, great company, and plenty of laughs.

A huge thank you to everyone who sponsored, donated, volunteered, or joined us on the course. Your support made our biggest fundraiser of the year another tremendous success, and we truly couldn’t do it without our amazing community.

A Busy Sunday for Station 61

We’re only halfway through the day, and Station 61 volunteers have already been keeping busy!

After responding to two calls during the morning hours, a crew from Tower 61 made their way into Norristown to lend a hand Fairmount Engine Company # 2 with their ongoing project to restore their firehouse to its historic appearance.

We’re always happy to support our neighboring fire companies—whether it’s on the fireground or helping preserve the history and tradition of the fire service.

🚨 Station 61 Response

At approximately 2:22pm on Friday August 7th, Station 61 was dispatched to the area of Germantown Pike and Stanbridge St for a reported vehicle accident.

Upon arriving Deputy 61 reported patient entrapment and upgraded the call to a vehicle rescue dispatching more units. Crews quickly began patient contact until EMS arrived as well as worked on removing the drivers door which became lodged when impacted.

Squad 27 and Rescue 33 assisted with stabilization of the vehicle for patient saftey as well as standing by to assist in disentanglement.

The incident was brought under control at approximately 2:38pm and crews remained on scene to clear debris and assist in traffic control before returning to service.

Thank you to Norristown Fire Department, Centre Square Fire Company, Plymouth Ambulance Company and East Norriton Police Department for their assistance and excellent teamwork.
