From the National Office of the NAACP:To ensure our survival as free Black people in this country two things need to happen. First, what has now become clear to the world, is the ongoing practice of police brutality, specifically against the Black community, is not only a civil rights issue but also a human rights issue. The NAACP is calling on the United Nations to step up and classify the mistreatment of Black people in the U.S. by the police as a human rights violation, aggressively call out the U.S. government in the process, and impose sanctions if necessary.

Secondly, we need sweeping police reform–federal legislation mandating a zero-tolerance approach in penalizing and/or prosecuting police officers who kill unarmed, non-violent, and non-resisting individuals in an arrest.

The proposed legislation must include:

Covid-19 Testing TOMORROW (MAY 22ND/FROM 8:00 - 4:00 PM).

The testing site will be open in the church parking lot.

The testing site will be open to ANYONE from ANYWHERE, children/youth and adults, and not just Orange residents. No appointments are necessary. Walk-ups and walk-ins are welcome.

Persons who want to be tested need to bring a photo ID and their insurance card. Medicare and Medicaid are accepted. If you have no official ID, your social security card is acceptable.

If you have insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, the test is free. If you do not have insurance, the full test including the antibody test will cost $225 ($152.15 without the antibody test).

St. Matthew did not set the fees; the medical group did. If you have no insurance and no money, YOU CAN STILL COME AND BE TESTED. St. Matthew has been receiving donations for this purpose, to cover the cost of the test for persons who cannot pay. The church currently has sufficient funds to pay for 75 - 100 people.

Please contact as many people as you know and encourage them to go to St. Matthew tomorrow to be tested. If our people don't take advantage of the resources and opportunities that come into our communities, the resources will go to other places. It is as simple as that. St. Matthew is a safe space and a safe place.

Please share the word about this event!!!

For those who might not know, St. Matthew's AME Church is located at: 336 Oakwood Avenue
