This is a HARD pill to swallow, as she is a TOUGH ACT to follow.

The East Orange City Council joins our entire community in mourning the passing of our beloved Municipal Clerk, Cynthia Su'ad Brown, a trailblazer, mentor, trusted advisor, and extraordinary public servant whose life and legacy are forever woven into the history of the City of East Orange.

For the last 28 years, Cynthia served this legislative body with distinction, dignity, and an unmatched devotion to the people and institutions she represented. Through countless council meetings, long evenings, executive sessions, elections, transitions of government, and moments of both celebration and challenge, Madam Clerk remained a steady and reassuring presence.

She approached every incoming and outgoing elected official with patience, fairness, wisdom, and professionalism. Her knowledge of municipal government was unparalleled, and her respect for the integrity of the legislative process never wavered
Cynthia was more than the keeper of our official records. She was the keeper of our institutional history. She understood that public service was not simply a profession; it was a sacred responsibility. She carried that responsibility with grace, conviction, compassion, and an uncompromising commitment to doing what was right.

This is a devastating loss for the East Orange City Council and for our entire city. The truth is, no one can fill Cynthia Brown's shoes.
City Hall will never be the same, and neither will the City of East Orange.

Yet even in our sorrow, we are reminded that a legacy as powerful as Cynthia's does not end. It lives on in the standards she established, the public servants she mentored, the elected officials she guided, the institutions she strengthened, and the countless lives she touched.

May we honor Madam Clerk Cynthia Su'ad Brown by continuing the work she dedicated her life to, with faith, integrity, compassion, courage, and an unwavering commitment to service.
