The East Orange School District proudly celebrates Dionne Warwick Institute on achieving Leader in Me Lighthouse Recertification Level 2! 🎉

Achieving Lighthouse status means that leadership is deeply embedded in the school’s culture, practices, and daily experiences. Reaching Recertification Level 2 takes that achievement even further, demonstrating that the school has not only maintained its commitment to Leader in Me, but has continued to grow, evolve, and create meaningful impact across the school community.

For Dionne Warwick Institute, leadership is more than a title. It is about empowering students and staff to find their voices, take ownership, build strong relationships, set goals, and make a positive difference.

We are proud to open our new gifted academy, proudly named after the late Johnnie Cochran. Serving students in grades 3–8, our scholars will begin this school year in an exciting, challenging, and enriching educational environment. We are committed to providing them with the tools, opportunities, and support they need to succeed.

A special thank you to Ms. Tracey L. Brown, Managing Partner of The Cochran Firm, for joining us and helping make this grand opening celebration so meaningful.

We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our Mayor Ted R. Green, and our dedicated Board members for their continued support, leadership, and commitment to our students and community.

We look forward to an incredible school year filled with learning, growth, excellence, and opportunity!

New leadership is taking shape across East Orange schools.

Four new principals are stepping into leadership roles at Gordon Parks Academy, East Orange STEM Academy, Edward T. Bowser School of Excellence and Althea Gibson Early Childhood Academy — and each is bringing a distinct vision for students, teachers and families.

From an East Orange graduate returning to lead the school she once attended, to veteran educators emphasizing advocacy, collaboration, communication and trust, meet the four leaders helping shape the district’s next chapter.

Tomorrow's the day! Join us for our Meet & Greet with our new Principal Dr. Cooke! 🎉

⏰ 11:00 AM–1:00 PM
📍 Gordon Parks Academy
📌 The event will be held on the playground at the corner of Greenwood Avenue and William Street. In the event of excessive heat or rain, the Meet & Greet will be held in the Wellness Room on the first floor.

There will be light refreshments, music, lawn games, and etc.
