Family Support Organization of Essex County

Family Support Organization of Essex County FSOEC supports, educates, and advocates with families! Our culturally competent staff assists families at critical times.

At Family Support Organization of Essex County (FSOEC) our goal is to empower parents and caregivers to take control of their lives. Our core principles are to...
• Support families in identifying their strengths and building on them to address their needs and goals. Such as, when a child is entering a hospital; appearing in court; meeting with school personnel and service providers; or their chil

d–study team.

• Educate primary caregivers of their rights, responsibilities, and resources that could assist them in reaching their family goals. Monthly educational sessions are also offered on a variety of relevant topics.

• Advocate on behalf of the family and work to ensure that their needs, rights and preferences are heard and honored by others. FSOEC staff also advocate for change in government policy and in the various systems that serve children with special emotional and behavioral needs.

July is Disability Pride Month.
A time to celebrate disability identity, culture, leadership, and community.
Disability Pride recognizes that disability is a natural part of human diversity. It is about acceptance, dignity, equal rights, and ensuring people with disabilities are valued, respected, and included in every aspect of life.
This month also commemorates the anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), landmark civil rights legislation that opened doors to greater access and opportunity.
Join us throughout July as we celebrate disability pride, share stories, challenge stereotypes, and promote inclusion for all.

Join us and together let’s be all of be the change

Today, we pause to honor Juneteenth, the day in 1865 when the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas finally learned they were free.
Juneteenth stands as a powerful reminder of strength, liberation, and the ongoing pursuit of justice.

At the Family Support Organization of Essex County, we recognize this day as a moment for reflection, learning, and unity within our community.

🖤❤️💚 In observance of the Juneteenth holiday, the FSOEC office is closed today.
We will reopen on the next business day.( Monday 6/22/2026)

May this day inspire remembrance, celebration, and a continued commitment to equity for all.

S-2346 — the bill to let families keep insurance coverage for their disabled children after age 26 — just cleared committee in Trenton. 🎉 This is a huge step forward for families terrified of losing coverage when their child turns 26.

You did this.🌟 The NCSA-NJ mothers — and others — who keep showing up in Trenton, again and again, moved this bill. Your stories, your persistence, and your refusal to give up pushed S-2346 forward. 💪

If you’re not already part of NCSA-NJ, now is the time. Membership is free. Join us, come to Trenton, and stand with the parents and allies fighting for a broad legislative agenda to protect our sons and daughters with severe autism and related disabilities. 💙

Here are Chairman Schnall’s full remarks from today’s vote:

“I just want to reiterate again to the mothers that made the trip to be here today. I cannot thank you enough. And you should have strength to continue this holy work. Unfortunately, the room is empty now, but as you mentioned, there are thousands of people at home who probably don’t even know you are here. On behalf of those who are never going to say thank you to you, thank you for the work you’re doing. I can’t control how far this motion is going to go, but at least in this committee, it’s going to get through. Yes.”
